ek hatch fuel gauge needle wanders...
My girlfriend recently bought an automatic 97 cx hatchback. Great car. The only things that are slightly off with the kar are paint (no surprise) and the fact that while driving the needle on her fuel gauge wanders a bit all the time. It wanders both up and down slowly for a value of no more than but most often less than 1/4 tank.
Suggestions??

It's a old Honda, it's going to do that. Mine does too.
It's awesome when you forget your car does that and your parked on an incline (driveway or something), and you think you gotta get gas. Then when you pull onto the street and drive for a quarter mile or so, it shoots back up to 1/4 tank or something. Score!

i noticed when i did my crv gauge cluster swap. mine fluctuates no where near as much i just think the civic cluster is just very inaccurate

Re: ek hatch fuel gauge needle wanders...
Do you think this is a problem with the gauges themselves or the actual tank level sensor (or however it reads gas level) Like say...if you put a digital s2k cluster in would the gas levels bounce because they are just getting a shitty reading before it even gets to the cluster?

Re: ek hatch fuel gauge needle wanders...
Mine wanders once it's under 1/4 tank. The last 1/3 of the tank or so features a rapidly dropping needle anyway, so I'm paranoid and fill up at 50%.

Re: ek hatch fuel gauge needle wanders...
I guess this is the real reason. It's not that the civic cluster is accurate, it's just that it responds to movement of fuel in the tank too quickly so when you make it turn, it adjusts itself a little too quickly.

I want to look into the fuel tanks. fleabag said something that could make sense that these tanks have a lack of baffles. Also thbx59 made a good point that it could just start happening wen it gets to a certain level.
