EK Exhaust Question - Poor man type R swap

I currently have a B16A head on a B18C1 block with a race header and no cat bolted up to a thermal R&D catback.

I bought the car with this setup and I would like to switch to a standard header and high flow cat setup for emissions purposes.

Which header application do I buy? GSR header? Si header? I just want to make sure everything bolts up correctly before purchasing the header and cat.

Thanks in advance for your help. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Any B series header will bolt up but fitment will be slightly different due to different lengths. I wouldnt even know which one to get in your situation but you can eyeball it and will probably know if it will hang too low or whatever other issues there might be.

um no, the B16 header will NOT fit on a GSR and vice versa, most likely you are gonna need the GSR header and a cat for whatever type the car is originally, although if you have 2.5" collector and cat back exhaust you are prob gonna want a 2.5" cat. OBX makes a real catalytic converter, not a test pipe that is 2.5" so you might wanna check there.

Sounds like a GSR header is the way to go. I'm assuming the B16 header will not work because the primaries are not long enough to clear the GSR block. Is this correct?

I'll take a look at the OBX cat.

Thanks for the help!

If anybody else has some input, it will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

different b series headers have different down pipe length and flange..the best way to do is to bring the car to a muffler shop to have them welded for u.thats what i did. i have tried gsr..ls and b16a headers...1 piece or 2 pieces..i finally went with LS header.. pm me if u want to know detail..cause i have been dealign with this problem for a month and spend a lot of money on this header job alone

Correct, the B18 block is just a wee bit taller than the B16 block. So yeah, go with the GSR mani.
