ek/ej8 cluster
I'm looking to put a center mounted tach where the speedo is and move the speedo to where the tach is... does anyone know the exact size of the space that I'll be working with, (i.e. diameter of the clusters and clearance behind them)? I'd rather not pull the dash apart just for some measurements.

Re: ek/ej8 cluster (i've_got_the_ADVANtage)
that's what I'm trying to avoid... you know the little window in front of the dials? that kinda prevents the easy way....

You don't have to pull the dash. You can remove the cluster bezel with only a few screws and then the entire cluster comes out with a few more screws.
Takes about 10 minutes the first time because you have to find everything but after that it's a 2 minute job.

Re: ek/ej8 cluster (DarkKnight[DMD])
its real easy to get the cluster out. i made a few pics to help explain. Sorry if they are ugly im not the best with photochop!
Anyway here you go.
Step 1:
there are 2 cross head screws holding the molding over the cluster. Tilt the Steering wheel down all the way. it makes it easyer to remove and work on.
After you remove the screws pull the molding out. there are 2 clips that hold it in. they are on the bottom left and right of the molding. It shoul pop out with not too much force. (note the clips sometimes pop off and fly aroung in your dash.)
Step 2:
After you remove the molding there are 4 cross head screws holding the cluster in place. they are on the top left and right and bottom left and right. Once you have all the 4 screws out you can pull the cluster out to you. Dont pull it all the way out. just about 1/2 way so you can see and get at the wire clips on the back.
On the back of the cluster will be wire clips for the cluster. they are all keyed and colored. They pop out real easy. Once you have the wire clips off you just take the cluser out.
Reverse the steps to put it back in!
Hope that helps you out.

Re: ek/ej8 cluster (trav)
Thanks and just incase anyone ever does a search for this,
My results:
The tachometer is just under 3 3/8"
The speedometer is right at 4"
oh and btw, there is absolutely no space behind the dials. There is the air duct for the center console a/c vents right behind the cluster.

Good idea...but I don't think you can make it work. The screwes the hold in the guages are part of the electrical system for the guages themselves. You are going to have major trouble with wiring...unless you rig something crazy up.
