ek or ej?
So I am kinda new to the honda Scene and I am a little confused about the chassis codes. I Drive a 97 civic Sedan with a d16y7 and was told it is an EK but my vin says EJ.I know its a stupid question but I dont want to keep thinking its an EK when it really isn't...so EK or EJ?

EK = sedans and hatches in other markets other than north america (ie UKDM, EDM, JDM, ADM, AUDM, etc) EJ = Every single 6th gen civic (other than an Si coupe and GX Sedan) in north america. There are EJ7 coupes in Japan. They're just called a STD model. And in fact no USDM 6th gen Civic was made in Japan besides a select few sedans (from '98-'00 if I remember correctly). The hatches were all built in Ontario, Canada and the coupes were all built in Ohio. EJ6 = USDM 96-00 Civic hatches (both CX and DX) - D16Y7 EJ6 = USDM 96-00 Civic LXes (which are all sedans) - D16Y7 EJ6 = USDM 96-00 Civic DXes (coupes, hatches and sedans) - D16Y7 EJ7 = USDM 96-00 Civic HXes (which are all coupes) - D16Y5 EJ8 = USDM 96-00 Civic EXes (both coupes and hatches) - D16Y8 EM1 = USDM 99-00 Civic Si (which are all coupes) - B16A2 EN1 = USDM 98-00 Civic GXes (which are all sedans) - D16B5 92-95 Civics are not all EG9s. The EG9 isn't even a USDM model. The only cars in the US that are true EGs are del Sols (which I believe are EG1, EG2 and EH6) and 5th gen sedans. EG8 = USDM 92-95 Civic DX sedan EG8 = USDM 92-95 Civic LX sedan EH2 = USDM 92-95 Civic CX hatch EH2 = USDM 92-95 Civic DX hatch EH2 = USDM 92-95 Civic VX hatch EH3 = USDM 93-95 Civic Si hatch EH9 = USDM 92-95 Civic EX sedan EJ1 = USDM 93-95 Civic EX coupe EJ2 = USDM 93-95 Civic DX coupe The only USDM 6th gen (96-00) EM chassis cars were the '99-'00 Civic Si coupe, which was the EM1. The EM2 is of course the USDM 7th gen ('01-'05) Civic coupes. This includes the '01-'05 DX, EX, HX and LX coupes. <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by cimo463 »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">So I am kinda new to the honda Scene and I am a little confused about the chassis codes. So you are correct. A '97 sedan with a D16Y7 would be an EJ6. Commonly all 6th gen Civics (especailly hatches) are referred to as EKs. No US Civic was an EK chassis though. EKs are actually only overseas 6th gen sedans and hatchbacks. Also, contrary to popular belief, there are LHD EKs in some countries (such as Germany). Modified by NOFX at 5:55 PM 3/17/2007 |
It's annoying when people say EK for any 1996-2000 civic. There are VIN numbers that tell you the chassis code. 3-4-5= chassis code.

You know what else is annoying? When peopel say "VIN number". https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif VIN = Vehicle Identification Number. No need to say number twice. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by cimo463 »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Thnaks that helps ALOT!</TD></TR></TABLE> Glad to help. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif More here: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1928390 Modified by NOFX at 6:04 PM 3/20/2007 |
