EJ6 and EJ8 Automatic transmissions?

EJ6 and EJ8 Automatic transmissions?
Are they the same? I have a chance to pick up a used one for $100. I'd like to get it as a spare. He is saying it's from an EX, but according to the vin (EJ6) it's not an EX. I have an EX (EJ8) Are the trannies the same?

if its a 96-00 civic auto trans its the same and will plug and play but if its a dx transmission i think the gearing is a tad longer. if older then no. as i know some ej's came in the older 92-95 civic coupe and sedan style as well.
