EJ6 with B18b1 CEL issues
My buddy, (who won't sign up on honda-tech) is having an issue with his car.
He recently bought a 97 Civic DX with a B18b1 engine.
His ECU is a PR4
He has a CEL on, but unfortunately someone 'cut' or removed the connector where you would plug the obd2 scanner in.
I gave him instructions on how to retrieve the CEL (jumping connector near ECU).
His CEL comes on, flashes for one second (meaning 10) then a 2.5 second break, then 1 long flash and it just keeps repeating. (1 second, 2.5 break, 1 second, 2.5 break etc)
What would this indicate?
I don't think it would be code 10 (intake air temp sensor)
Thanks in advance.

How To Retrieve Check Engine Light (CEL) Codes/List of OBD1 CEL Codes
10 IAT - intake air temperature sensor
So it flashes Code 10 but it isn't code 10? Is that what you are saying? What is your reasoning behind that?

If it just continues to flash 1 (code 10) and repeats that just means it's code 10? Wouldn't it just stop after 1 long flash?
I'm not sure what the code is, just want to make sure were reading/deciphering it correctly.
I've been doing it over the phone with him

Re: EJ6 with B18b1 CEL issues
edit:
code 10.
How would we specify whether its one of these?
P0111 Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor Circuit Range/Performance Problem
P0112 Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor Circuit Low Voltage
P0113 Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor Circuit High Voltage
code 10.

you can't. gotta run your own tests on it.

Re: EJ6 with B18b1 CEL issues
Yeah he sent me a picture of his ECU.
and your totally right, the only plus side for him is that he lives in Florida, and they don't require inspections.
I guess he has from now til whenever he moves back to NY to get it figured out.
I told him to go to the junkyard and get one out from another car and wire it to his.
Which ecu is he supposed to have? Is the plug missing since the ecu is for an obd0 engine?

Re: EJ6 with B18b1 CEL issues
I had him check and see which motor he had (by checking about the exhaust port) He said he has a 96.
If he has a 96, wouldn't he need a P75? Would he just need to swap ECU's? What else in involved?
EDIT: I called Phearable and they said some PR4's came in OBD1 which would make more sense. So, if his car is obd1 (and most likely using a step down harness), then this CEL is still code 10?

Re: EJ6 with B18b1 CEL issues
Scratch all of this.
Apparently, the IDIOT from Advanced Auto Parts, who originally told my friend that the DLC was "cut-off" was wrong. I had my friend send me a picture, and his DLC is fine. He has some spare wires that are spliced and not connected to anything, but that's a different story for a different day.
Last question, if he is running obd1 in his car, would he just use the obd1 code reader?

he could, but i don't know off any people off hand that have one other than the dealer. it is the same as jumping the connector though.

Re: EJ6 with B18b1 CEL issues
sounds like the problem could be that he is running an obd1 ecu on an obd2 car. the IAT sensor was in different location between the two. is the iat plugged in? is it in the intake arm or on the intake manifold?

Re: EJ6 with B18b1 CEL issues
yeah but I believe he has the proper step down harness.
I believe so, I do believe it is plugged in. I think his is in the intake arm, (isn't that obd2 location?)
He went to advanced auto parts again, they plugged the obd2 code reader in and couldn't get a reading.
