Hey guys, i have a d16z6, i am not sure why my car started overheating on me yesterday but i noticed that it only happens when im driving at 75+ for about 10 minutes it starts to overheat, i have no clue what it could be because if im driving speed limit on local roads, this doesnt happen. I checked the oil and coolant. Both are fine. If you have any suggestions on the problem or have had the same problem, i would like your input. Thanks

when your driving faster and the motor starts to overheat its either the thermostat starting to go bad or sticking and just replace it. or maybe your water pump is getting worn and not working as well as it should.

but my guess would be the thermostat.... its cheap and quick to replace. just be sure to bleed the coolant to prevent the iratic honda idle

i 2nd what addiction says but do the thermostat first it's the cheapest and easiest to do

if thats not it it could very well be your water pump speed dosent affect t-stat operation. on the other hand the water pump turns with the engine so if your impeller deterorated them it wont flow enough water to keep it cool at higher speeds. but a thermostat is cheap so try that anyway couldnt hurt to try also check for heater hoses that are kinked ect

Thermostats sticking open cause no heat, not overheat.Try blasting out your radiator with a power washer before you rip apart anything and make sure your cooling system is free of trapped air, just so you don't completely waste your time. Poor high speed cooling is most likely from the fins being clogged or the radiator itself is clogging internally.

thermostats dont just stick open.... they can stick in any position! if the motor stays moderate at normal driving low speed then id say its the thermostat not fully opening.

its a cheap @ss part to replace and really easy to swap out. just go swap it out... what you have to loose 15bucks? and then you also know its good
and if it doesnt help in THEN i would look into replacing the water pump, timing belt, and maybe tensioner as well.... lets face it youll have the belt off and while the face is ripped off the motor go ahead and replace everything all OEM and know its all good and should be trouble free!

i have a 93 ej1 and im having the same problem but mine over heats when i rev longer.

a bad water pump could do that as well, see where they break right in the middle they spin like normal at idle but as the rpm rise and water pump speed increases the impeller will stop spinning....
