Default EJ1 Backfires On Start-up

What would cause my EJ1 to misfire? Only thing I have on the car is an AEM sri and a, ebay catback...New plugs, fuel filter, wires, rotor...no cel either. It only back fires when I first start it in the morning. Every other start up it doesn`t...

Probably should add that it started only about a week ago. I`ve had the exhaust for about 6 months..

Does the CEL work?

Have you checked the ignition timing?

Is the engine running rich?

Cel works, turns on when the car starts than turns off like normal.

Have not checked ignition timing yet. Maybe the rotor I got is defective?

The O2 is only 8 months old. The plugs look normal. Here`s a pic.

Could leaky injectors cause it to backfire only on the first start of the day?

Check the ignition timing and go from there.

Is the engine running rich?

I`ll check the timing and get back to you.

And no, the engine is running normal. No black smoke or erratic rpm surges. Unless theres another way to tell..

Low gas mileage?

Smell of unburnt fuel in exhaust even after engine is warmed up?

Mpg is about 26 average.

And no burnt fuel smell after it as warmed up. I`m thinking it could be that the engine is getting older. It does have 300k on it.

That's pretty low mileage for an EG. All city or city+highway mileage?

Use a timing gun to check the ignition timing.

Averaged between city and highway. Maybe one or two off but that`s what I`m figuring.

That's low mileage for a 95 Civic. I get 33-34 mpg with mixed city/highway driving for my 97 Civic.

Check the ignition timing.

How old are the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor? Do you have properly gapped NGK plugs installed?

You also may want to compression test the cylinders (dry & wet).

Plugs and wires are about 8 months. cap and rotor are the same age, a little over a year. And my plugs are NGK`s gapped at proper .04
