EG6 Si speedometer, odometer & cruise control issues
Hey guys! I've hit a wall in the quest to figuring out my gauge cluster issues. My mechanic wants to tear apart the dashboard to get to the internal fuse box/computer. In an effort to save myself some time and money, I'm turning towards you smart honda savvy geniuses to hopefully help me out! Crossing my fingers…
My speedometer, odometer and cruise control stopped working five days ago. I checked the fuse box under the hood and under the dash and everything seems normal. I swapped gauge clusters and no difference. I made sure everything was plugged in and working, cleaned wires and checked connections. Still nothing!
I know in my car (D16Z6) first starts with power going to the speedometer and then branches to the cruise control. Any insight or help is immensely appreciated!

Get rid of that mechanic. He's worthless to you. Go to the FAQs sticky. There is a thread there telling you how to pull CEL codes. You need a paperclip or short piece of wire. Do it yourself.
Finding code 17 could explain the problem.

Electrical troubleshoot the VSS circuit rather than replace parts at random.
Finding corroded VSS connector pins is a more common cause of CEL code 17.

Found it, checked the plug. Looked fine and drove it around… Nothing. Is there a way to test it?

Use a multimeter to test the power and ground wires in the VSS connector. Also test for a short or open in the VSS signal wire that runs from the VSS connector to the ECU connector.
When the VSS connector is bad, some people get a replacement at a junk yard.
Alternatively, some people depin the connector and resolder the pins to the wires.
