EG w/ D15B7 needs a swap
Hey all,
Im brand spankin new to this forum but its been recommended by friends to join up and see what its all about. I have a 95 EG hatchback, and the body is in great shape so its worth keeping, but I cant stand the lack of power that comes stock with the CX....
I was thinking a B18B as it is a relatively balanced motor in terms of tourque and hp (and yes, the gears are waaaaay long), plus their pretty affordable as well. If I were to go with this, what kind of turbo should I look at buying if it were to be my daily driver and running under 10 psi?? Any feedback would be appreciated!!

How many miles on the d15b7? They can handle a good 9-12 psi depending on size of turbo and a good tune. There is a built block for sale in the for sale section that will let you boost up to 400whp. Think its selling for 1000

B18B is an easy swap, and very affordable, but if you wanna go really cheap you could get an OBD1 DOHC ZC. It'll bolt up to the stock D series tranny. a friend of mine had one and it worked good, they're supposed to take pretty well to boost too.

The motor and tranny have like over 200K on it (120+ miles), so i would kind of feel more comfortable putting a jdm motor in it, like a B18B, because it shouod be for the most part plug and play. Not sure though, im no expert. I would just convert the head to a ZC but again, the tranny has alot of miles on it and im doubting its ability to handle boost.
Obviously if i get boost and am going to get acquainted with the sound of my blowoff valve, then the tranny will take a tiny beating in the process. If I had less mileage on it, I would probably just tune the D15B7 the way she is

If you were refering to swapping on the ZC head from the engine i mentioned abouve, thats not gonna happen, you can swap a SOHC ZC/Z6 head though and do a mini-me swap, i wouldn't recomend it, but its been done many times before. for overall reliablity and availabilty of parts the B18B is probably your best bet as you originally mentioned. And as an added bonus there is a lot more aftermarket support for the B series. 200,000kms isn't that high, it certainly doesn't scare me anyway, i've got 350,000kms on the same tranny in my car and it still works good, no grinds, shifts smooth, does have some slight bearing noise, but thats about it.
