EG Tachometer - Possible Problem.

EG Tachometer - Possible Problem.
Hey Guys/Gals,
My first post so I guess I should make it an interesting one. My current setup is a canadian 93 CX with a d16z6(241,000kms) engine and tranny swapped into it with all of the SI trimmings from a donor car swapped into mine.
The problem is that I find I'm really driving my car hard and my tachometer isn't really going up where it should be? I find i'm really pushing it hard and it sounds the same way but the rpms are really not going and higher than 5500? As if to say that it is off? I feel that if I drive my car any higher its really going to blow a headgasket again. I did this in March with my b7 revving it to around 6000rpm's. The b7 had 242thousand kms on it.
Also I have had a CEL since I swapped the motor in and I haven't had the time to check it since I'm in university and travelling frequently.
I am wondering is there a possibility that the signal from the dizzy is being drained somewhere along the line? I know its the blue wire. Is it possible there is a break in the wire somewhere creating a signal loss of sorts?
Any help would greatly be appreciated. I used the search function and I didn't find anything. Is there a way to include 2 character words into the searches?

Fix that first then all your problems might go away cause with the CEL light your car is running limp
