EG OEM gas cap stowage - trick I learned
So spent the last 3 years putting my gas cap on the roof of my car when I gas up and it really bugged me. Especially after I drove off a couple of years ago without putting it back on and lost it and ended up have to replace it with an Autozone special.
A couple of months ago, I start thinking about it and notice that the little clip that holds the door closed is just the right size to hang the gas cap on. But my non-OEM cap wouldn't hang there because it doesn't have the right kind of lip around the circumference of the gas cap. So I hit up junkyards for 3 months and finally score an OEM Civic gas cap. Sure enough, the OEM gas cap clips right onto the door latch. No DIYs necessary. Embarrassed that it took me that long to figure this simple feature out. It's not documented in the manual, but I'm wondering if this is just a lucky happenstance or if it was designed that way on purpose. Here are pics:

it's part of the latch, I am not sure the techs at Honda would have even thought about doing that. It'd be like saying the antenna is a good fire poker, it probably wasn't designed with that in mind.

My Jetta and Civic don't have caps that are attached to the fuel door. I'm in the habit of always putting the cap on top of the pump. Don't get any fuel residues on top of the roof and I never forget it cause its always at at eye level...

I was wondering how many people did this...looks like only a few do. Like I said, I felt a little embarrassed not realizing this little trick. I used to put my cap on the pump as well, but I drove off without it one day.

i always just turn it upside down and put the top of it down into where my roof molding is. it doesn't put gas on my car and keeps debris out. I will try this new trick. should be making a gas run later today hahaha.

I used the plastic cap hold from the integra 94-01.

Yeah, I've seen the DIYs out there, but my point is that a DIY isn't even necessary...everything needed to stow your gas cap is there as long as you have an OEM cap.

Lol I did this the other day I was putting in gas, and some kid behind me was like woahh! And I was like yeah.
On a serious note, this is a neat feature. I always having a feeling I'm going to drive away from the gas station and end up almost forgetting this.
