EG Mirrors on EK DIY Pics!
EG Mirrors on EK
I wanted a different look and did not like the “fat” appearance of the stock EK mirrors. I couldn’t see paying ~$250 for JDM stuff either. I remember on my ‘93 Celica that the mirrors had a cutout and the airflow helped keep the windows clear when driving in rain. The EK mirrors would allow the water to swirl behind the mirror, which I found annoying. Total time: 45 minutes for the first one and maybe 25 for the second one.
Tools needed:
·Drill
·8mm wrench or socket
·screw-driver, flat and Phillips
Before pic on the driver side, after pic on the passenger side:
1. Remove mirrors. I had to pop the door trim away to get the adjuster arm out of the way to get to the 3 nuts behind them.
2. Use the rubber seal from the EG mirror as a template to lay out new hole locations. The EG power mirrors I used for this had a different hole pattern. I wonder if the manual EG version has the same hole pattern as on my CX.
3. I used a slightly larger drill bit than the ones already there for the new holes to allow for adjustability. Newer holes are the bigger ones!
4. I removed the 2 screws for the electrical connector and tucked that behind the rubber seal.
5. For now, I used only two nuts to secure the mirror in place. The nuts are flanged and are too wide for the top hole. I will need a set of spacers between the nut and the sheetmetal. Seems secure for now. I test drove at ~55mph to test the strength.
6. Re-assemble the door panel and the mirror cover.
7. TADA!

Mods, if this is in the wrong forum, please feel free to move it. Just tell me where it is going!

Nice write-up
I prefer the Ek mirrors over the Eg ones. But, that's me. I prefer the smaller spoon style mirrors over both Eg & Ek
Still nice How-to none the less

Yeah, not bad at all. I've been wondering how to fix the rain swirling as well; since with all the salt on the roads where I drive, it becomes a safety problem when it builds up and you can't see the mirrors. Can this be done with power mirrors?

I don't know and don't care much for pwr mirrors. Weight I just ended up with EG power mirrors. I personally would not spend any effort into looking at the wiring unless someone paid me to do it. Should not be that hard. Then again, when was the last time someone adjusted their mirrors
