eg hatch: should I switch from a turbo d16z6 to a b series?
I had to replace a headgasked on my d16z6. Is maintenance a big issue on these engines?Should I switch to a b16 or b18? My friends are telling me that my car will be slower (200whp right now), but I don't really care because I'd rather have a b series setup because there are more options for upgrading in the future. My friend's GSR is fast enough for me.
So I'd like to know what you guys think... is it worth it to switch to a NA b series?
I'm trying to compare the cost of maintaining a turbo vs swapping a whole motor in there...
Also what years are the best engines to go for? and any california swap rules i should know about? thanks for reading
Adding to this post, what kind of parts did you guys put into your build d16's?
I'd like to get new pistons and rods, and what other parts/services will I need to let this car handle a lot of horsepower?

i always thought once you've experienced boost, you will never want to go back...
turbo's can be just as reliable as n/a
all they need is a proper tune.
if its leaking, fix the leak... did the last owner give you copies of the receipts for a tune?
then save up for a FI k24a2

Re: (richieiscool)
Find out what's wrong with the turbo, go have it looked at or look at it yourself.
I am on HT to learn and figure things out for myself, I'd encourage you to do the same. But if that's not your priority I'd suggest reading to figure out what your next model should be. It's all up to you, whatever you want.

not that many people would want to buy a d16 that's been beat on boost...just blow the d16 and go k20

Rebuild the turbo its like $150 Vs $2000 for a swap B swap .The K series is atleast 7,000 swap. Im boosting my built d16z6/y8 at 25 psi. Leaving the b swaps in the dust. Rebuild the turbo if its a stock internal motor get it tuned run it on 8 psi and call it a day.

haha the problem with keeping it till it blows is that a honda is hard to blow up. its cool that you're keeping your d16 and just boosting the hell out of it, what kind of parts should I put in there to handle the extra boost and power?
right now on my list are:
Arias pistons
Eagle rods
Better cam gear
New timing belt lol
and of course I'd get it retuned. churches for the win!
also i will search HT for how to take apart my turbo because I want to learn how to work on my own car, but I'll take the criticism im a n00b. good weekend project but that would suck if i put the turbo back in there and i didnt do something right. *kaboom* turbo flies out of hood into outer space.

1... sell d motor
2... buy b motor
3... keep turbo stuff
4... buy different exhaust manifold
5... enjoy more than 200 whp

i don't see a real reason to go b-series unless the car is your genuine daily driver. in that case, i'd do a jdm gsr with bolt-ons...and tune it.
the problem is, to do a b-swap properly, its expensive. so, pick your poison, really.
i prefer a mildy built, safeguarded and tuned D with boost, esp if you already have the D and turbo bits.

i say build a 300+ whp d and watch what happens after you smoke some one and you tell them what kind of motor you have. a turbo car like said above is reliable if you are mechanically inclined and have a good tune. i would say the tune is your main thing though once al the parts are put together right the first time around your good to go.
