Do you just need to take the dash off, or the underdash components too?

the matting under the dash weighs alot more than all the tar under your carpet

Honestly bro I pulled mine out after pulling the dash out, but I'd bet that you might be able to get it out by cutting it out if you don't want to pull the dash out.

I wasn't targeting just the mat when I was taking the car apart, so I wasn't really thinking of the best way to get just mat out and reassemble.

I'm sure that the dash being out will make it much easier, unless of course you find it hard to remove the dash.

you're going to get a lot of road noise and firewall heat coming through if you pull out that mat...

the 5 lbs max that you'll save by pulling it out in my opinion just isn't worth it.

tore mine right out with the dash still in tact.
had to cut a few spots to get the mat around a few mounting tabs.

there is definitely more HEAT from the engine on my feet that I can feel on long drives thats for sure!
not much more noise though.
but really a lot more HEAT on my FEET ! not that it hurts but its noticable.

mine tipped 9lbs on the scale.

I had the dash and heater box out already though.

The mat really is heavier than even some of the tar that comes from some of the tarriest Civics.

Civics are not nice.

Civics are not quiet.

If I wanted a nicer, more refined car I'd not own 3 Civics.

Sometimes people realize that they don't care so much for the creature comforts, so they start tearing things out.

The only thing that gets on my nerves sometimes about my car is the exhaust smell. Is it from the firewall mat being gone? Who knows? I'm also missing my carpet, tar, interior plastics, etc.

It only happens at full throttle and when I shift really hard, like when the header and cat become sepearated briefly at the spring-loaded flanges.

huh?
maybe you had better look into a better sealing joint in your exhaust.
cant be from just removing the firewall mat.

me, I dont get any bad smells in my car except my leaky gastank
