EG Ex vs. Si
im researching for buying my first car and Honda - Tech is my bible of goodies.
im looking for a 94-95 coupe and my first instinct was to buy an Si, ive always thought they had a better motor and everything.
but i came across some info that said they both have the D16z6
ive also read the Si come only in the Hatch, but ive seen many Coupes.
can i get some advice and maybe even some differences between both the coupes. if they are the same engine wise id probably got Ex due to lower insurance costs.
thx guys

Re: EG Ex vs. Si (Darkslide_08)
yes the 92-95 si's and ex both have the d16z6 motors. The si's in those years only came in hatches and are single cam. The si's after this generation are the duel cam b16 motors, and they come only in coupes. Eg ex's are heavy because of all the options that come with the car. The si hatches;however, are lighter then the coupes or the sedans obviously but they are the heaviest among the hatches. Im not sure about the insurance being cheaper on the ex over the si's..because i only pay 90 bucks a month full coverage for my si hatch.
p.s. I rather get the si hatch over the ex, just because its lighter..unless you like all the luxury that comes with an Ex...

Re: EG Ex vs. Si (Darkslide_08)
I believe that 92-95 Si's only came in hatch form. The Si's had the d16 I believe. Now the Si motors (d16) are kind of like the 96-00 ex engines (d16y8's). Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure this is how it is.
Edit. Beat me to it.

Both the EX and Si's had the D16z6.
Here's some 93 Civic specs:

94 specs:

I threw in the 94 specs just so you can see the slight difference in weight between the 92-93 and 94-95 Civic's.

Re: (Darkslide_08)
The si is lighter over the ex because its a hatch, also it doesnt have power windows like the ex does. If you can get a newer car, I would suggest you do..why not right? It all depends on what you wanna do with your car? just a daily driver or are you planning on modding it at all? are you planning on a motor swap? Do you like the ek's over the eg's as far as body?

1. Si does have a coupe model here..unless the stickers were switched, but ive seen alot for sale..
2. it will be a daily driver, but id like a few mods, mostly cosmetic over performance, but a lil performance eventually. nothing extreme cause ill need it for winter
3. no motor swap
4. i like both of the bodys, i dont think i really have a favorite, right now i hink im leaning towards the early model, but i would be happy with either one. i think the eg's look hotter when lowered a bit.
performance wise, would you choose an ek over eg?

Re: (Darkslide_08)
yes, they do have EG si coupe in canada
my bro's old si coupe
if it's a daily driver, it doesnt really matter when its either Si or EX, just depends what features you like best
but if i were you, i would look at body shape of the civic first before anything else because up north here, they rust like ****

yeah i know, i live in northern ontario, the one i looked at had a bit of rust, i decided against it, cause once its rusted, even if u get rid of it its gonna come back..
im gonan try to find one down in t-dot, highway driven and the TO people use less salt, and thats what kills our cars
my car would be for driving back and fourth to school, and goin to friends, cruisin im thinkin ex because of its extra features, since it will probably never see a drag strip or turbo.
and that car is hot bro, i love black !!!

I dont think the si hb is that light, it weighs 2326lbs bone stock. I dont think an ex coupe is that much heavier at all for a noticable difference.

Re: (Darkslide_08)
ya good luck, just watch out for scammers....especially when they try to sell the car right after they "paint" it. too bad for many of them that you can still see the bubbles on the paint from the rust spots they dont wanna properly fix.

yea, you are correct, its not that much lighter than the ex, but still lighter nontheless..and for some people, even the slightest weight is an advantage

there is a local asian mall that have some stores (Pacific Mall at Steeles and Kennedy) but they're only good for some things. most stuff are best ordered from h-t suppliers
