Default EG engine advice

Ive been around Honda's my whole licensed life, and I have a good sense of what I am doing.

For my next project, I am returning to the Honda scene, having left it about a year and a half ago...

My new project will be a 92' DX Hatchie with a blown headgasket. I want to do a SOHC turbo monster, and was wondering what engine setup should I go with?

D16Z6, Mini-me, D16Y7?...I consider myself a little rusty, so help me out a little bit.

I wouldnt mind doing an LS turbo, but I like the SOHC, they have great potential, too.

Quick edit -> Price effectiveness is key, here. I wouldnt mind doing a budgeted setup, without spending TOO much.

but if you must, i'd take a D16Z6 or D15B VTEC.

or you can do what i want to do:
D16Y8 block
D16Z6 head
D16Y8 transmission

maybe ls/vtec turbo if you have the money. heres a roundabout price list you would be looking at and it would be 10x better than a sohc setup if you want high hp #'s due to the tranny needing to be built stronger which isnt too cheap. i would try either an ls turbo or go ls/vtec turbo. its your choice though!

ls block - 200.00
vtec head(b16a or b18c) - 500.00
ls/vtec conversion kit - 240.00
gst tranny(depends what year) - 450.00-700.00
550cc or bigger injectors - 300.00 - 400.00

thats just your basic average ls/vtec setup. all you would need then is your turbo kit. just get a nice t3/t4 57 or 60 trim and you would be good. also choose a good eng management system to go with. either aem ems, hondata, neptune or something of that nature. i wouldnt go with the blue box or afc hack if i were you. uberdata if youre on a tight budget would work fine. stock ls internal should handle upwards of 350-400whp if tuned properly! if you go with the b16a head then definately get a set of gsr cams and throw them in, they are great. ive seen over 800whp on gsr cams so dont go get some spendy cams when you dont need them. also if you want great hp #'s then go with a lovefab sst, neukin equal length, or full-race turbo manifold. neukin would be your best bet if you could find one used....maybe 400.00 or so(600.00 new). full-race is like 1200.00 and lovefab doesnt make them anymore so youre looking at 5-600.00 used on those. with the ls block you always have room to build when you get more cash. just stick with stock sleeves and throw a good set of forged rods and pistons in. with that upgrade youre looking at 500+ whp in reach!

good luck with the build man.

1st of all...nice numbers, seems your car is doing nicely!

LS/VTEC right now is more than I want to bite into; I really want to keep it as simple as a SOHC turbo or LS turbo.

I have no idea why but the SOHC seems like a more attractive setup, but Ive been pricing and researching and the LS swap would not cost me too much more, especially since I know some owners with extra swaps laying around. Well, when I get my hatchie this week, Ill let you guys know.
