Default EG/EK to s2000 drive train question

I understand that doing a RWD swap will be a bitch. But I plan on buying a 92 hb shell. How much welding/fabrication is going to be involved?

Or is this just a crazy dumb idea?

Just wait for the F20C-to-K-series transmission bell housing to become available, and do a FWD F20C setup

Or just get a K-series 2.4L engine, do a hybrid build-up, and be faster than with the S2000 engine.

Someone in Canada did complete S2000 drivetrain conversion to their EH3 Si, and it wasn't that spectacular . . . ran 14s-15s I think.

The worst idea ever: putting an S2000 engine in your hatch with the intention of making it front-wheel-drive. WTF would you do that when there are much easier, cheaper, already FWD swaps that have much more potential? Retarded, IMO.

About the drivetrain swap, this is what you're going to need to do (at least).

1.) modify the firewall and create a bellhousing bulge in the interior sheetmetal to accept the RWD tranny and true orientation of the F20C.

2.) create a driveshaft tunnel with enough volume so as to allow for driveshaft travel under rear suspension load scenarios (check out the undersides of T2 RX7's for examples of how yours might look).

3.) custom weld mounts to the unibody of your hatch in order to accept the S2K engine.

4.) trim the S2K rear axles to fit the width of your hatchy, figure a swift method of holding on to the rear diff and figure out which 5-lugs you're going to be using in the rear.

5.) either make room/adjustments for the IRS of the S2K or spend lots of time and money figuring out a 4-link setup for the rear suspension/axle combo.

6.) tub the hatch so you can put some bigger meats on that bastard .

There will be many more incidental things you'll have to figure out, but these are the most work-intesive, I do believe.

i saw a website before that sold RWD trannies for B series engines. i don't remember the address, but i'm sure someone around here knows about it.

Honestly you would just be better off buying a complete S2000 to go along with your hatch. The S2000 is a complete package, not just the engine and drivetrain, that's the beauty of it. If you try to custom build a hatchback with an S2000 drivetrain, sure, you'll have something cool and different, but you'll have spent tens of thousands of dollars on something that just isn't much different from and no better than the real thing. Remember that S2000 weighs 2800lbs, you'd probably be shaving off about 600lbs at most by using a Civic hatchback shell, which isn't all that much when you think about the magnitude of this project.

If you really want to do it though, I give you a and wish you good luck.

You can get a custom tranny made by Quaife, but that can run into the tens of thousands of dollars.

You don't even need a special tranny really; you can modify other trannies out there to work with a B-series engine. I've seen shots of someone using a B-series with a VW transmission in an old-school Beetle.

Why not just fabricate it so that you can mount a B series in the rear? I think Top Fuel has a similar setup in a Del Sol.
