Well accually, it's not just hatchbacks you can call ek or eg. You could call coupes and sadans of the correct year by these names also. The ek,eg,ef,ep...etc refers to the chasis of the car. heres what i know:
CIVIC's

96-00 EK (civic)
02-?? EP (civic)

hmmmmm if you want to get SUPER technical it is referred to as an EJ not an EK. i believe EK is the japanese variation....
I dont hjow correct it is but the Haynes manual refers to teh
2,3 or 4 door D16Y7 as EJ6
2 door D16Y5 as EJ7
3 or 4 door D16Y8 as EJ8
2 door B16A2 as EM1
