Guys,
I have a quick question: what are the main differences between EG CX and an EK CX hatchbacks? Besides the looks of course, are there any major "weight/electrical/drivetrain/swap-friendliness" differences?

The cars are so ridiculously different that it's not even worth mentioning.

Only thing that's remarkably similar is they have the same radio harness and the suspension/drivetrain are moderately interchangeable.

I knew about OBD and the engine, I believe the EK has a 16v engine while mine is a little 70hp 8v.

Eran, you mention there are a lot of differences... this is interesting. Do you happen to know the weight difference (both in CX trim)? Also, what is the general consensus on the best car to build? I am not planning on going crazy, that's what the GSX and the Duc are for, but if and when the single-cammer goes I will drop some flavor of B-engine and I was curious as to what is usually preferred for a mild swap with mid to high 100s fwhp goals.

In other words, if one could pick between a stock EG CX hatch and an EK CX hatch (let's say price is the same), what would most people on here pick? Why (besides personal preference on looks)?

I know that the EG CX weighs 2094 lbs, I'm not sure about the EK though.

I have heard that the EG CX are the best car to prep for performance because it is the lightest of the EG's and I know that the EK's are a bit heavier.

I would choose the EK over the EG just for comfort. Is this going to be a daily driver or what? I know you said you don't want to got crazy, but what do you really plan to do with the car?

The EG CX and VX tie in at the same weight so it isn't the lightest of the EG's, but it is one of the two lightest.

I'm a fan of the EG CX, especially 92+93 models with all the VTEC wiring. As far as the harness is concerned, all you need to drop in a B is to add a knock sensor wire. Black vinyl int is pretty cool too IMO.

Did any EKs come with the black vinyl int?

Apologies for the delay in replying but I just got back in town.

Anyways, the reason I was asking is because a coworker of mine is selling his EK Hatch (CX) and I was thinking of buying it and lending the EG to my little brother for a few years.

My Lady drives a 5spd EK Coupe (EX) and they do feel a little more solid. From the comments I gather that a B-series swap might be easier to perform as well. I am very curious on the weight difference between EK vs. EG hatchbacks in CX trim and will search around for it.

What's a good deal on a bone-stock, 5spd EK Hatch (CX)? Mileage is around 170k, motor seems solid and doesn't leak/burn oil.

Good deal? That's a real relative term. What is she asking for the EK? I've seen them go for around $2000-$4000 around where I'm at. But I'm sure the demand for those cars is much more in your area...which means more $$$.

Hurtgen: good point. In my case, they are both in very solid shape.

P_nut: The guy's asking $3200, but I wouldn't spend more than mid-high 2000s on it. He doesn't care about cars and carpools to work, so if he's willing to take anywhere between 2500-2750 I'd think about it.

I am temporarily out of Florida for work reasons and that's another reason why this lonely little hatch has been driven around with a for-sale sign on her and nobody called. I feel like she's not being appreciated up here...

then i would go with the ek. not only do i prefer the look, but it is younger and is more likely to to be in better condition all around (unles you know something we don't )

Honestly the EG would be better. When its time to do the swap it's way easier. We all know the wiring mods that need to be done for the 96 and up. 1 piece harness vs. 2 piece harness....
Driver side EG mount is better too.
And the EG has the tail gate that flips down! I still remember the first time I seen the tail gate come down back in 93! It was the freshest thing ever! hahaha

IMO, if i was building a DD i would go with the EK. If i was building track car id prefer the eg. Why, just preference.

I have a white EG a Cx as a matter of fact. Its a rolling shell only missing the drivetrain. PM if any one is interested.

OMFG I hate that one piece harness and how it's mounted under the fvcking IM. I always put the wiring back the way I want it in the EKs. Bullshit you got to take the wiring off and put it back on with the engine in the car.

EG engine swaps FTW.
