EG Cluster Problems
Went to get into civic today and started it up. Fuel gauge rose to above the full mark and stayed there. I had less than half a tank. I disconnected the cluster and put the needle in the middle to try and reset it but still raises back up to full. What could be wrong?

Re: EG Cluster Problems
Well, i got the car about 2 weeks ago. And yesterday, i got fed up with the spray painted bulbs. So i put other bulbs from another cluster in it. Replaced them all exactly how they were only with clear ones.... Put the Cluster back in and start it up and check the lights. Thats when it started.

I am having this same problem. What was the fix? I had my cluster apart to install a fuel computer and thought the problem was I drove it around for a few days and only had half a tank, but the gauge read full when I plugged it in (so I thought that screwed it up, but beginning to think that was not it).

Re: EG Cluster Problems
Well, figured out and fixed my problem... Seems the key thing here is that everyone that had this problem recently had the cluster apart. What happens is you over-tighten the side screw and it twists and snaps the VERY thing copper wire. I tried to fix mine that was in the cluster and failed. I had a spare one but just threw it away, BUT the trash had not gone out, so after digging through my trash I found it, but it had the same problem. Ended up being able to very carefully solder the two broken copper wire ends back together. Lightly put on the needle to see if it was working and went and filled up the car (was at 1/2 tank) and sure enough while I filled up the needle rose to the top. Removed the needle and re-installed it in the full position. Hopefully it stays working.
Will update with results as I run the tank down and add the picture I took (crappy cell phone picture, but better than nothing).

Re: EG Cluster Problems
Just a reminder of the obvious, to everybody, as the concept seemed to be missed in this thread.
-> 3 things will typically cause a fuel gauge to not read correctly
---> Bad fuel sending unit
---> Bad wiring from fuel sending unit to ECU/ECU to cluster
---> Bad cluster
-> A "bad cluster" can be divided up into two sections, typically
---> Problem with the actual board itself (typically need a new board, or cluster)
---> Problem with the actual gauge itself
You can easily cut down on the issues by simply trying a friend's cluster or something, takes like 10 minutes.

Re: EG Cluster Problems
Here is the picture of the problem that I had. If you look carefully you can see that the wire is broken and I realigned it. When I first looked at it, the post that the screws from the back of the cluster screw into had twisted and broken that wire.
