Default EG Build *Help*

how can i tell wat engine i have and if its vtec powered or not? the previous owner said it was.
WORK IS STILL IN PROGRESS

do u feel vtec?

look at the front of the block under the radiator hoses for the engine code, but by the looks of it i dont see a vtec silenoid behind the valve cover...

its a d16z6....you can see the green plug for the Vtec siloniod next to the dizzy and also under the valve cover vacum hose...

nah it's not an Si, no sunroof.

But it is a z6, i see the VTEC solenoid peakin out from under the breather tube going to the intake from the valve cover.

im not sure if its an si or not but im pretty sure its not. i just took the car cuz it was a gift..
so its a d16z6 not a d16y8?

and for some reason it appears to have a 96-00 d16y7 exhaust manifold on it.

look at the vin on ur dash for the trim level, eh3 is si; which it isnt...

its a d16z6...y8s have the dipstick by the cam gear and z6 have it through the exhaust maifold

the d16y8 is slightly stronger..very slightly..by like 1 or 2 horsepower...but id preffer a d16z6...they are less likely to spin a bearin..so i heard

no, but just be cautious if you buy a different exhaust you may need to do a little custom work depending on how they installed the header.

yes, the y8/y7 motors have inherently weak oil pumps.

good to noe.. he had a k20 in it before but it was recently stolen after a year the owner recoverd it just like that..they also stole the emblems..
btw when does the vtec kick in?

yes sir, and your best bet for hearing it (chances are you won't "feel" it) are to do a 3rd gear pull and leave your intake the way it is, with no filter or anything on it. I'm not kidding, that's when it should be the loudest, just don't keep it like that.
