EF guy needs some help for a buddy, y8 swap into dx EK
Hey guys, I'm an EF forum guy usually and thats what I spend most of my time working on. However, I'm helping my good friend swap a y8 into his newly acquired 96 dx hatch and I need some help ahead of time from you EK gurus. So far we have acquired a y8 head and ecu and axles (spares i had laying around). We still need a tranny and block, questions which ones can i use. I know i can put the head on just about any d series block and it will bolt in, but will all the sensors plug up correctly. Say if I was to use a Z6 block and tranny what issues would I run into? I know the z6 doesnt have a knock sensor and the y8 ecu looks for one, so would not running one make the car run incorrectly? Any help is great thanks

You can try searching as there are many posts about this. However, you can also look up user "spade", as he is the guru of mini me swaps, etc.

what year is the ecu.. u want a 96-98 cuz of the obd2aobd2b thing.
also u dont need to change the axles, just swap the tranny. use the stock axles.
ull need to add vtec wiring, just like us EF guys
u can use any d block except dohc zc. and other dohc d motors..

you dont even need to change the tranny. you can use the dx tranny it just has longer gears. basicaly all you need is the head and the ecu. someone answer for me does the dx have a knock sensor. what ive heard guys doing is just leaving the sensor plugged in and just like zip tieing it to something solid.

i know i dont need the ex tranny, but using the dx will cause the motor to fall out of vtec inbetween shifts. trust me i know from experience. basically all i need to know is where i can find a digram or something showing me which ecu pins to add the vtec wires and if obd1 d15's have a knock sensor
