Default Edelbrock Turbo or swap?

howdy all, my 95 ex d16z6 has 140,000 miles on it. I was wondering from other tuners and car enthusiasts which would be the wiser choice of either installling and edelbrock turbo kit or just swapping. PLease guys and gals let me know.

if you drag race go turbo, if you autox or road race(not street racing), go na with a swap the power all the time is much better

I'll tell you guys what:

This site is here to duscuss and compare set-ups from first-hand knowledge, so I'm letting this topic stay open.

Hopefully it will be a an inteeelgent debate for us to use as an example the next time someone asks a similiar question.

Having said that, fight hard, fight clean!

Okay, since Tom has dubbed it appropriate I'm putting in my .02.

I saw swap this one. At 140k you're going to start having to replace things soon, and if you just buy a lower mileage swap you won't be as fast, but won't have to spend all of the extra money to replace parts right away.

With that said, I have a SOHC-T and wouldn't trade it for a swap.

I own both.

Pros of a swap:
Reliability
Power delivery(AutoX)
Drivability
Cons:
Initial price
Pretty common nowadays
B series parts do cost more

Turbo pros:
AWESOME power spike when the boost hits!
Torque uphills!
Originality.
The Edelbrock is a great kit, especially for being livable on a daily basis.
Cons:
To make real power, you have to fortify the bottom end
Initial setup and tuning (NOT exactly plug and play)
Increased maintanence

If you like to drag race and have the mental fortitude, boost it. The Edelbrock kit is said to be one of the best out right now.

If you have to drive the car everyday 40-50km's each way, swap it.

I guess thats case close? Anyone else wanna debate? Very well put Revhard_EF. Couldnt have done it better myself...

If you wanna know what I'd do, I'd swap just because reliability matters more to me than the PSSSHH for 10-20k miles. I mention reliability because your car is 140k. Its your call...

Now why in the world would that be????????

I've been turbo'd for a year now with the Edelbrock kit. I put on 24k miles on the car in the last year. The setup has been flawless!! When I hit 90k miles I did a major service and tuneup. The car is driven everyday and still runs as good as the day I put the turbo kit on the car.

Boost is fun! AND reliable, if done right.

Yeah...so what if its only 7psi...he is asking about the same turbo kit I have. No, no boost controller or turbo timer on my car. Since the turbo is water cooled, there is no need for a turbo timer, unless you autocross the car.

Well, if you aren't going to back it up with a "why", then I'd say do a K24 turbo setup! D, B, and H series are old news! haha

K series price, LS price. There's my point.

i was going through the same debate, but when i got the money i came across a b18c1 for a really good price, that i couldn't pass it up. But if I wouldn't have found the swap i would have bought the edelbrock kit. It is really really really nice. So I answered my question by what was cheaper and what was quicker. But each is awesome, so just decide by what you really would rather have.

Swap now and turbo later. This way Your car will be decently fast and reliable until you get enough money to properly build, tune, and maintain a turbo motor. Another perk being that a built dohc swap has the potential for more power than the stock low boost sohc.
