Edelbrock Turbo kit for Y8's
Well quite a few people have been waiting for this kit for quite a while:
With over a 60% increase in power, this complete and simple to install Turbocharger Kit gives 1996-00 Honda Civic SOHC VTec D16Y8 owners an option to costly non-emissions legal engine swaps. The Garrett T28 ball bearing Turbocharger comes pre-assembled as one unit with a Ni-resist cast exhaust manifold, a cast iron exhaust elbow, and inlet oil and water lines for the simplest possible installation. The system includes a high-performance Performer X intake manifold with four extra injectors and a separate electronic controller to add fuel under boosted conditions. Also includes an oversized Spearco intercooler and Tial blow off valve. The Edelbrock exhaust manifold and elbow are designed for maximum flow at high velocity for quicker turbo spool-up. We’ve included a windshield pillar mounted boost gauge and pre-assembled Russell oil, water and fuel lines to make this one of the most complete kits on the market. Available early Spring ’03. Emissions-legal status pending.
Well it looks like the pricing has finally been released, but not on the edelbrock site, http://www.modacar.com has this listed as pricing:
96-00 Civic EX EDB-1500 $3799.00
I don't know if that's an inflated price, but now i am rethinking this kit, pretty pricey...

Re: Edelbrock Turbo kit for Y8's (RSZero1)
Well what are you getting that no other kit has: an intake manifold, extra injectors (saves you from having to buy new upgraded one's anyways), and a fuel computer.
I have a qustion, I hope someone has an opinion. every picture I've seen, it seems that the intake manifold has had the throttle body relocated to the other side. Did someone in the graphics design department just flip the negative??? Or is it truly reversed, and maybe we'll see the intake, actually make it into the fender well, ala true cold-air intake?

Re: Edelbrock Turbo kit for Y8's (Quad-Damge)
The ad in Turbo Mag. from Edelbrock states that the msrp is like 3500. Modacar is probably just jacking the price up (don't know for sure, just my opinion until proven otherwise).
I've considered getting the kit, but if it remains that high, I'll have to pass. I'd rather get a full Max Rev kit with Hondata (would be cheaper too).

May be flipped for easier turbo piping......*shrug*
N-E-Way, that thing is still emissions pending. So, hell no.
Besides, 3700 + Tax. I'm not liking the power to cost ratio at all.
$3700 drops in a 200 horsepower H22 and all the mounting stuff needed. Great low-end torque for daily driving.
OR 3700 buys a nice entertainment center and a nice couch to watch it from. (Yup, went there)

Re: Edelbrock Turbo kit for Y8's (Kyoji)
Modacar is a rip-off. way overpriced for a lot of their stuff. if Gruppe-S every has another a'pexi sale, i'd buy that over the edelbrock w/o thinking twice. $3800 is too much for a D-series turbo kit, IMO.

Re: Edelbrock Turbo kit for Y8's (Spade)
well it is a bit costly, i think i may just consider a different route, my main goal was to be smog legal, i did my y8 swap in prep for this kit, but oh well, oh and in the engine bay pics at edelbrock, the tb is on the correct side so i think someone just flipped the pic

Re: Edelbrock Turbo kit for Y8's (RSZero1)
I think 3800 is a bit much for the D series kit...isnt the main reason any of us still have a D series motor is because its easy to work on and has cheap parts?? Hell thats more than some B series turbos!!!

Re: Edelbrock Turbo kit for Y8's (RSZero1)
You also have to remeber, with the other kits, you need to do dyno tuning. How much is that going to cost you? What happens if you run too lean when you first start it up, detonate the motor, and blow a hole in a piston? It WILL be emissons legal, the edelbrock car was on their emissions dyno and passed back to back tests. Just waiting for the paperwork from the ARB to go through.
Edit: I can't the pics I want to link work....will try later. Also, Edelbrock said in a PR that they targeted $3500 as the street price. The Modacar price is probably high since the number of kits available is low to limit the demand. I see that price will fall. In the new SCC mag the DRAG kit price is over $3900 with no intake manifold or pre-tuned fuel computer, and no E.O. number I imagine either.

Re: Edelbrock Turbo kit for Y8's (RSZero1)
That seems very expensive, even if it gives a 60% increase, you could get the same from a cheaper GReddy kit with upgrades and raised boost levels.

Re: Edelbrock Turbo kit for Y8's (piscorpio)
The Greddy Kit for the SOHC are like 1500 and with the extras u need is like 200 to 1000 more and it's still cheaper then that kit by a long shot. But will the power make up for the 2500 more to spend
with 2500 u can sleave and build ur engine to take like 30 psi of boost

Ok...have the images of the kit and dyno graph....images were found on vtec.net
1500 for a Greddy kit....and how much boost and power can you run with that? And for people in CA with 96-00 civics...what happens when a cop pulls you over and asks to see your E.O. #? Does the Greddy fuel management let you wire it in and just run at peak performance right out of the box, or do you need a few hours of dyno tuning?

Re: Edelbrock Turbo kit for Y8's (Marauder)
wow, the quality is amazing based on those pics. i still say $3800 is a little bit too much, but it is a complete kit ... one of the most complete out there. and it's smog-legal, which is excellent. I'm impressed.

Re: Edelbrock Turbo kit for Y8's (vtecvoodoo)
wow, color me impressed, but damn that is still a hefty tag
Pros: Very complete kit outta the box, CARB legal soon, and a very nice gain in power.
Cons: Price, Price, Price...
Alltogether with my y8 swap + that would be about $4500. still it is way less than a C5 swap and more WHP than a GSR swap, plus i assume that if you do build the engine a little 200WHP isn't that far off. Hmmmm, thinking....

Wow...people sure like to round up. Edelbrock said the street price should be $3500....and just since one place advertises $3800 for it when the first handfull of kits are shipped outta Edelbrock, now its a 4 grand kit!
The new Sport Compact Car mag article has a kit offered by DRAG with a price of $3900 for the same model civic....and you don't even get as complete of a kit. Think too many people are used to buying cheap kits for lower performance products.

Re: Edelbrock Turbo kit for Y8's (R you serious)
I'll wait for edelbrock B-Series turbo kit. I talked to one of the PR guys at the IAS awhile back and he tells me they will start off with the B16 then the B18, and finally the H22 kit. also yeah $3800 for a turbo for the d-series is too pricey. I'd rather buy it for the twin cam engine instead.
P.S. the PR guy also tells me I can upgrade the turbo later on down the road and still keep the original turbo manifold.sweeeeet

Was just thinking that. Of course people swap GSR and ITR motors in which are the same price for the most part.

Re: Edelbrock Turbo kit for Y8's (89_CRX_HF)
It only makes 67whp over stock at 7psi. That is quite a low about of gain for 7psi. It turns out to be about 9.5whp/psi boost. On other setups with standalones I have seen upwards of 12.5-13+whp/psi boost.
