Default Edelbrock Turbo Kit for The d16y8 opinions

Anyone installed one yet? I have seen the ads and read the how to install articles. I am impressed with the amount of parts you get in the kit; FMIC, New intake manifold with 4 extra injectors, etc. Has anyone installed one yet and run it at the track? I am curious to see quarter mile numbers and trap speeds.

Matt

Setup basically like a Greddy kit with IC option and just as expensive if not a little more.

you get more than greddy, you get a nice spearco intercooler, performer x manifold w/secondary fuel rail & four additional injectors. and isn't the garrett t28 better than the greddy turbo? but then again this kit is price around $3500 whereas the greddy kit is much cheaper.

edelbrock is a *COMPLETE* kit. After you add the additional necessary parts to the greddy (intercooler, fuel management, bov, etc.), it will be nearly the same price as the edelbrock. Edelbrock also comes with a ball-bearing turbo. You can find the edelbrock kit for around $3100. Still expensive, but probably the best d-series kit on the market.

Wrong.

Larger turbo, better designed exhaust manifold, intercooler, aluminum piping, Tial BOV, 7 psi, and fuel management, intake manifold with additional injectors and fuel rail.

170 whp, I believe are his numbers. VERY IMPRESSIVE. Most of the GReddy SOHC Civics I see at stock boost make 170 crank hp. If I had the funding, I'd rebuild my engine and use the Edelbrock kit. Much better fuel setup than GReddy (although I've heard their new kits use e-Manage now instead of the blue box). Edelbrock supposedly dyno tuned their fuel setup specifically for the P2P computer, so everything bolts on and should work on maximum power. No extra tuning necessary.

Here's my dyno with the Edelbrock D16Y8 kit on a SuperFlow eddie current dyno. When it was dyno'd on a DynoJet it made the 178 whp and 148 ft-lbs. Just different dynos result different numbers Its also a Garrett GT28 turbo, not the old T series.

Marauder, have you smogged your car yet? If so, what were the results? Because the Edelbrock is 50-state, right? I knew a lot of GReddy guys who were failing CA sniffer on their Z6 at 5 psi of boost and stock cat.

Nope....Don't think I have to until 2005.

Supposively the Edelbrock test car passed the strict smog test fairly easy. I just had a new cat put in my car before the turbo (back in March) so I should be good for a smog test. Yes, my Edelbrock turbo kit has a E.O. number

The Greddy fuel system is pretty crude. In the stock fuel trim from Edelbrock, if you don't screw with anything, you should be fine. I have a friend who works for a Honda repair shop, he just picked up the kit for his '99 EX, but is converted to the OBD1 computer. I should check whether his shop has smog equipment and maybe have him check his car on it when he's done installing it.
