Default edelbrock turbo

anyone runnig the new turbo kit from edelbrock for the y8's? What kind of numbers are you posting with what other mods? cams, rods, exhaust, etc...

Stock base engine....no other engine mods except MSD ignition. Nitrous is not operational at this time.

how much boost are you running? I thought that you shouldn't go more than 50hp above stock without making any internal mods. I only ask this because I'm curious to see how the engine will hold up over a longer period of time.

Impressive numbers by the way.

Daily 7psi is good for long haul....and 10 to 12 psi at the track is possible. Mine is running at 7psi...and yes...there is an E.O. number now!! I'll post the number as soon as I get work what it is.

As for the kit cost....I didn't have to pay for it since I am sponsored. Only a few kits have sold so far, with more in production and trying to fill backorders. I saw a guy in the LA area saying he is selling kits for about $3350 I think. I will see if I can find the post.

you have all stock internals with this kit? How much do you think a cam will help? I want this kit bad. I seen nopi's selling it for 3,300. that's not too bad. Do you whoop up on the dohc cars out there? Would a b16 with i/h/e be abel to keep up?

No....I doubt a B16 can keep up. A GSR with some good tuning and all motor is only a little bit faster in the 1/4 mile. I have seen GSR times of about 14.7 when my car ran a 15.0.

I don't know what a cam will do to it. I deffinately think it would probably make somewhere close to, if not over 200 whp with a cam.

The car has kept up with GT mustangs....had one try to dust me when we saw all my stickers on the car and I kept door to door with him. I'm wanting to put in my LSD and interested in a 4.7 final drive....that should make acceleration a little faster. I also want to find a way to get around the stock rev limiter and rev to 7500 rpm instead of 6800.

I'm not dissing the kit, but $3,000+ for 15.0 1/4 mile doesn't seem "cost effective." Yes, it's cheaper than a swap but for $3,000, I'd better be in the 14s.

What does it use for fuel management?

Also, is this the only kit out ther for the Y8? I know the Greddy kit is for the Z6 (does it still work for the Y8, too) …

he has potential to go faster. He is limited by his stock parts. If he builds his motor for boost I don't think you'd be saying that.

A lot of boosted D series motors can put out good numbers (Aren't aloto fthem in the 200-240 range).

definitely, with impressive hp and torque numbers , i was looking for high or mid 14's... how was the launch? conditions? tires?

Yeah...but you are running a lighter car. My setup is heavier than a stock coupe. It retains all the stock components plus adding a rollbar.

The car runs on 17x7 wheels with Toyo RA1's. The conditions were about 68 degrees and overcast with a ground temp of 74. With slicks and weight reduction it should be able to run low 14's. That and in a hatch...maybe brake into the 13's, but I'm just guessing.

The kit puts out 176 whp and 141 ft-lbs...compare that to a stock 142 whp and 100 ft-lbs, with i/h/e you can't get that much power.

What weight reduction did you do to your cx?

that's actually a really slow 1/4 mile time for a turbo d16. there are plenty of 96-00 ex's out there running low 14/high 13 times with stock internals....and that's at or below 10lbs boost. what size turbo is that? t3/t4? there's a guy running an apex-i kit on han and he ran a 14.1 untune with a 99 ex coupe @ 8lbs. im not sure if he has any weight reduction tho. he has 15" rotas and some other stuff. he gained about 10hp from tuning and hasn't run it since.

Also keep in mind...its an E.O. legal kit....not able to adjust boost. Set at 7psi and tuned conservative for daily driven cars that need to pass smog or live in an area where cops check for E.O. numbers when they ask to pop your hood. Its also a Garrett GT T28 ball bearing turbo. It also comes with a non-adjustable piggyback with four extra injectors preassembled in the manifold.

If you are looking to tweek, tune, and adjust boost... THIS IS NOT THE KIT FOR YOU! Wait for the cheaper open-track kit for the Y8, if you want an Edelbrock kit. Same basic components but no secondard fuel rail, injectors, or engine management.

I am sure my car would be faster if I could put some smaller wheels on it and then lower the tire pressure. The car did start to run in the high 14's but not consistent. Also, the 1/4 times were done at a strip put up in a parking lot, not anywhere near idle traction conditions.

i'm not knocking the sohc turbo, because it is the most convinient way to go fast. but you have to ask yourself do I want to run 14's forever? because without serious work, that's all you might see.

Ummm...depends on what you are building. It you have a target 1/4 mile time...then you build what you what to acheive it. The topic isn't....how to build the fastest civic in the world, its about the performance of the Edlebrock Y8 turbo kit. You want to talk about how to make a 12 sec Civic...that's a whole other topic!

15.0??? DAMN.....i ran a 14.5 all-motor on my 1.6 SOHC motor before i did any internal work. $3000....SORRY just my HONEST OPINION!!

So how much did you spend on this all mighty all-motor setup...post your specs, dyno numbers and parts cost. Also, what other mods were done.

Just because my car ran a 15.0 doesn't mean your can't run faster...my coupe is heavier than stock. With the power level of this kit in a hatch with weight reductions would be much faster.
