Default ECU swap issue

I have a 95 vx stock. d15z1, when it gets hot inside the car, the ecu doesn't allow revs past 4700. Got one from a member on the forum to remain namelss until i get to the bottom of this. What happened : Got home from work, car ran fine all day except the revs. open his package, look at ecu. Looks decent on outside. Go ahead and swap it into my car. Start car: instant limp mode and CEL... Swap my ecu back in, cars runs and idles fine... WTF i'm thinking... so I'm thinking about it and open up cover on ECU... low and behold... blown components on the board. Is there anything my car could have done to cause this by plugging it in and attempting to start it? I don't think so, because I swapped my brothers ecu in it from a d15b, and my car idled and reved to redline fine... I'm thinking this guy screwed me... What do others think? If we come to the conclusion it was a member on this forum he will be named and called out.
