turbo is the best way i have a single cam and all the bolt ons and you cant make power if i was you i would just get a dohc and dont waste any money on a single cam

goin turbo is the cheepest way to make significant power gains. DOHC's are the best way to go but the SOHC is still a good platform, people dont give them enough credit

Re: easy ways to gain single cam power (D SERIES)
thanks alot guys. im also wondering if the hx engines have as much potential as the ex engines. i was reading the other day that the hx's came with a VTEC-E motor thats only putting out 115 hp rather then the 127 with the ex.

. I'd say swap to a DOHC but turbo is fine. <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by 96CivicBoostCoupe »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">people dont give them enough credit</TD></TR></TABLE>
but whats the condition of the engine? I know honda's can handle a lot but u may want to replace the internals if u go turbo.

if you turbo do it right the first time. dont just put a turbo on it and think it will last forever.
build the engine internals first, then turbo it. it will probably cost you around $4000 bucks to build the engine somewhat.
-my friend spent around 7000(canadian) on his engine and it could up to 35psi on boost.

Nitrous, when used properly, isn't that bad on your motor. That's a very general misconception that people typically have with nitrous. As long as you follow the 15-15 rule ( spray for 15 seconds or less, let car sit for 15 minutes), and don't abuse it too much, your motor should hold up just fine running nitrous.
If I were you I would just look into doing a turbo d setup, and just piece together a custom kit. With doing a custom kit you have all the time in the world to decide what components you want for your setup and you will be able to do it the right way the first time.
As far as building the motor up before boosting, it's not neccessary to do so. I know a lot of turbo d's running on stock internals at 6-10 psi just fine and that have been running fine for quite some time. It all depends on your setup though. Sure it won't be as strong and stand up as well as a fully built motor, but you can take everything one step at a time, and still be really happy with the outcome of the turbo d.

Do a search on this site for "VTEC-E". You should find more than enough info.

Re: (slomofo)
with all do respect guys this guy has just gotten a honda, and is new to it. and unless his wallet is unlimited there is no way he has the understanding of how to do a k-series swap, nor the time or money.
-so with respect to that. Jesseman445, how much do you want to spend???

If you were looking for HP why did you buy a civic? No offense but there are faster cars out there stock for stock for less money. Civics are great for what they do and can be made fast, you just have to know what your getting into. Adding a turbo to a car that wasn't designed for a turbo can introduce all sorts of headaches as well as broken ringlands.

exactly
how is a k swap the quickest cheapest ways for more hp? it's a more difficult swap, they cost more, and most people have never done one.
The thread is titled "easy ways to gain single cam power"
1.) nitrous- very easy to set-up, reliable power, AND NOT DANGEROUS when done properly.
2.) turbo- a little more difficult then nitrous. but with help from H-T you can do it yourself.
3.) supercharger- about the same install dificulty of a turbo, a little bit more reliable, but you will not see the hp gains like a turbo.
and lastly, welcome to H-T, but most of all, welcome to the Honda family
