Open your hood and remove the 2 nuts on top of the strut towers.
Jack your car up and remove the lower fork bolt.
Push down on caliper and remove entire spring/strut assembly.
Remove bolt holding lower fork to the strut.
Bolt it to new assembly.
Place it back on like you removed it.
Preload the new assembly.
Drive off into the sunset.

if you're replacing the entire assembly.. then what Dimi just wrote. simple as that. but.. if you're only replacing the springs with "coil over sleeves" you'd want to get a set of spring compressors.

You wouldn't need a compressor with coilover sleeves. Just lower the springs enough so the top hat can fit onto the top of the strut. Now for springs it depends. If you have short enough lowering springs then you can just hold down the top hat and put the screw on like I did with my Tein S-Tech. Some lowering springs may be longer and you will need compressors for them unless you can find a way to get them on without.

he would need the spring compressor to take the stock springs off if he's re-using the old struts.. of course there's other ways to take the spring off without a compressor.. but it's the safest.

Just be careful when taking out lca bolts (if they aren't just sleeves). This happened to me twice, broken head on bolt:
Had to take it to the shop 2 separate times to get them out

nah.. dont bother with the spring comressor method.. waste of time/money. Either un bolt the top while the strut is still on the car, or just aim it into a box when you take the top hat off.. then just let it spring off into the box.. it doesnt shoot off hard at all.. done many shock/spring replacement type stuff without ever using a spring compressor. Especially if the springs are old and worn down.. they wont have much kick to em at all.

I agree. I bought the spring compressors, used them on one corner and have never touched them since. Waste of time and money. I just shot the bolt into a trashcan.

I actually find it easier to undo the shock fork bolt first, then the lca bolt, remove the fork.
THEN undo the nuts under the hood and pull the shock and spring from the car.

I agree, but for novices. I like to tell them to use 'em. Don't want a rookie hurting themselves and come back at you and give you **** about tellin them how to do it the "wrong" way.
I usually get it up against a brick wall, step on the end of the strut and turn till it pops. that's usually the easiest.

Re: easy way to remove shock with spring? (spyderracing32)
the only time you need a spring compressor is to put a stock spring back on
this is the way i do it
undo 2 14mm bolts for the top hat in engine bay(NOT THE MIDDLE ONE)
undo 1 side ways 14mm bolt holding strut to the fork
undo the 17mm bolt holding fork to the control arm
take strut out
using a air gun with 14mm take out the middle bolt , i lay the strut on the ground and let the spring pop out into my driveway(goes like maybe 5 feet
simple as that

Re: easy way to remove shock with spring? (Timmay)
Ok guys thanx for the info and the quick reply so here what i did
1.loose the 14 bolt in the wishbone arm thin and then the 17 that goes at the bottom hit with a hammer and it fell off... loose the top 2 14 bolts turn the shock to the side and it came out easy and done. i would post pics tomorrow of how the car looos
