Does the CEL work?

Clogged cat?

Last ignition system tune up?

Clogged fuel filter/low fuel pressure?

Popular or common problem?

If the cat is fine, then please try to explain the low exhaust pressure.

Ignition/mechanical timing?

Fuel pressure?

What did your tune up consist of?

Inspect the cap and rotor yourself and either replace the fuel filter or check the fuel pressure.

Timing?

Low exhaust flow?

If you assume everything is fine without actually knowing, then you'll likely struggle to make any progress in solving the problem.

I don't know your mechanic. I just know that it's not uncommon for mechanics to get it wrong. And if you have complete trust in your mechanic and wish not to question his diagnostic skills, then get your car to him ASAP.

It just seems that you already know what the solution is and is not. In this case, a tech forum like this can't convince you to think otherwise. Pay your mechanic to fix your car.

You say you want advice but you reject suggestions and make huge assumptions. Nobody can tell you what the problem is unless you start checking things suggested to you. Otherwise, you are asking people to guess based on symptoms that can have many different causes.

If you can't or won't inspect things or do some tests, then you really should just pay your mechanic.
