I normally park in front of my house on the side of the street, which is a flat surface. A couple weeks ago I parked in my driveway, which is at a bit of an angle. As usual, I left the car in neutral and put up the e-brake, then went inside. About 5 mins later my neighbor comes running to my door to tell me my car was rolling down the driveway. Turns out for whatever reason my e-brake is loose.

Now whenever I park on an angle (not very often), I have to leave the car in 1st or else it starts rolling. The e-brake isn't completely loose, the car rolls but it does it slowly. Is there any way to tighten it up and does anyone know why it would be loose?

i am assuming you have rear drums? if this is the case, take off your rear wheels, take off the drums. then with brake parts cleaner spray out the inside of the brake, and the drum. after removing the considerable amount of dust build up that is usually found. you will see a little gear. use a small flathead screw driver to turn the gear a few teeth. there will be a spring loaded locking mechanism that will hold the gear in place. let me see if i cant find a pic real quick.

Oops. Forgot to specify. I have a '93 Si, rear disks.

its loose cause its a wire that loses it's tension over time.

take off your armrest or whatever covers it, and tighten it, pretty straightforward.

Yeah, that's the only way to tighten an e-brake. Just turn the nut.

BTW: If the stabilizer thing is ****-eyed replace both cables. You'll see what I mean when you take off the center console arm rest.
