Default E-Brake has rising Temps. coming from it

Lately if I'm driving somewhere and my hand is on the armrest, I can feel heat coming from the opening in the ebrake cover. If I stick my hand in there, It's actually really hot and it will stay that way for a long while. But then there are sometimes it won't be hot at all and it's just a little heat coming from there. I'm getting worried about this as this is the first car I've ever encountered to do this. The only thing I can think of is my Catalytic Converter but what does this mean when I'm getting all this heat?

Its just the heat from the exhaust coming through. Mine does the same thing when I had my ebrak cover removed. It also made my shift lever hot sometimes
