Default Dyno time or wideband?

ok, so i'm just about ready for my uberdata'd p28 to go in, now i have a crucial decision to make. do i take $250 and put it towards dyno tuning, or take that $250 and put it towards a $300 PLX wideband unit?

with the dyno tuning, i will have concrete numbers and data to go by, and it will be done by pros

but with the wideband, i can tune it myself using datalogging and the uberdata editor at any point in time, as many times as i want (in case i do more modifications) and be able to constantly monitor my a/f ratio.

i'm really torn between the two choices, and i'd appreciate it if ya'll could help me out in this decision. thanks.

well i would do a dyno so that you have the numbers and u can see your powerand. Then save money up and get the wide band, and do all the tuneing you want. And also 250 for a dyno pull and tune!! that is expensive!!! i would call up Titan and see what that have as far as a better price.

oh okay. But i would still give titan a call, or talk to James on HT, dont know his user name on here, but try to talk to him and see if you can work something out. They are a Sponser on here so who knows if they can cut you a deal or not. It is worth a shot.

I vote for the wideband. I bought one and have some software on a laptop to watch all of the sensors my ECM sees (AIT, timing, fuel trim, etc...) and tune it myself. I just shoot for the best AF ratios and if thats not where it makes tip top power so be it. I wouldn't trade my wideband for anything as I've tuned mine and various other cars with it.

Meh, 2 hours on a dyno w/ wideband AF should cure most of what ails ya. Why mess w/ anything but concrete, plotted-out numbers???

I had to make the same choice, but chose the wideband option for the following reasons.

1. You can tune with it
2. Acts as a gauge while driving around saves money from getting a EGT (most people get a EGT if they can't get a wideband for monitoring)
3. Help tune your friends car as well.
4. Can save yourself money on dyno tuning later, as you car will be mostly tuned.
5. Not every shop will tune your car with Uberdata. Most only do Hondata or AEM

I'm not saying one is better than the other but, these are the reasons I went wideband first.
I probably will still get my car dyno tuned.

Hope this helps

soccaian, what your set-up? n/a, turbo?

IF you are looking to tune the car yourself, read alot of the Uberdata forum. There is a lot of good info there.

I am not him, but maybe I can help.

I choose to buy the Innvote. I like the features and the price. I would really not recommend it if you are going to run it in your car all the time. The sensor box is big and hard to hide it.

If you are looking for a cheap (not cheap in reading a/f), nice wideband without datalogging, The Plx m-300 is the way to go. It small and mounts like a guage.

Also, most have Narrowband Analog Output so that you can ran the wideband as your narrow band (stock Four wire) and your wideband.

others that are worth liking into:
Edge Tech 2.0 (they no longer sell the lower verisons)
AEM (I do not like it personally, but a great product and price)

A EGT sensor is not waste of money, it is a tuning tool just like a dyno is and a Wideband (Yes, a dyno does more than just telling you your HP)

Edit: did not see the last part of your post, sorry.

Oh i'm not saying a EGT is waste of money, having both would be great. I've just read from many other posts that if you can't get a wideband a EGT would be next best gauge for monitoring how your engine is running and AFR. Although not as accuratly, as many things can affect exhaust temp.
