anyone replace their dx tranny with one from an ex, si? hows it run, my gears are so tall its not funny. 40 in 1st, 70 in second, 100 in third, 120, in fouth, fifth is useless. will a 96+ tranny work in the 92-95, i mean plug and play, or is there any wiring concerns or cel's? give me info

I've heard all D-series trannies are interchangeable as well, but my Q is this: If you were to use a 5th gen tranny in a 6th gen chassis (or vice-versa), do you use still all corresponding mounts from the original tranny, or use the 5th gens'?

Re: (EE_Chris)
96-00 EX tranny = 92-95 EX, Si tranny
96-00 DX tranny (FROM SEDANS AND COUPES) = 92-95 DX tranny
96-00 DX tranny (FROM HB) = 92-95 DX tranny with a **** final drive
A good upgrade is a 92-95 Si tranny or a 92-00 EX tranny. Emerika ran both trannys, ran a 16.2 with the DX trans and 15.5 with the EX, its a world of difference. I'll let you all know within the next few weeks how much the EX trans helps me

I'm boosted too, and no matter what any of you say, shorter gears will yeild greated accelleration. End of story.

yes ricey is correct. In fact the only time you would want longer gearing is if you were making so much power that traction was impossible with the shorter geared tranny.

the 96+ ex trannies have steel shift forks, where as the 92-95 ex/si have aluminum which are prone to breaking. Just something to think about, especially if you auto-x and ever find the need to jam the car into first while moving.

Everyone that raves about the Dx tranny "giving me more time to boost" I gurantee an EX/Si tranny would imporve your 1/4 mile times.
The DX tranny is even too long for high boosted SOHC engines IMO.
I friend of mine was making 250whp on his boosted B16A. He swapped in an LS tranny for the B16a one he broke and it made the car slower in the 1/4 mile although his top speed and highway runs were better off.
Then he swapped in a shorter-than-LS GS-R tranny and he said it was perfect.
Keep in mind he was making 250whp - I doubt most routine boosted Ds are making those numbers.
Remember the Dx tranny not only has taller gearing, but also a shitty 4.06 final drive as well.
Taller gears do not always equal better for turbo.
