Default DX cluster changed out for CX cluster w/ tach, tach no workie-please help w/ pics.

Hey guys I have a 93 DX hatchback, well the cluster sucks no tach and my heater needle was broke so I picked up my friends cx cluster from his 93 hatchback which had tack and all, same as the ex but with the redline at 6 grand, which dosent bother me at all. Well when we went to install it we plugged up the 3 harnesses that came off of my car 2 bigger ones with lots of wires on the sides, and the other small harness which was yellow. Well on the cx cluster there was another empty slot which my car had no wire harness to plug into (believe me I looked). Well when all plugged in tach dosent work so it leads me to believe the empty harness in the back of the cluster is the reason the tach isnt working. Well I searched and everyone just says they are plug and play. I dont think so though. Anyone have same problem im having? Heres some detailed pics of the cluster and all. Please someone help me get this working, and on a sidenote my friend had an ex cluster to we tried it to but it didnt work. Pics-

Heres all the wires coming out of my dash:

Heres the "new" cx cluster with 4 plug in's in the back

On this pic of the CX cluster there is the 2 little plugs. I dont have anything to plug into the left one. My harness only has 3 harnesses:

Heres a pics of my old DX cluster with just 3 plug ins:

Here is my new cx cluster:

This picture shows there is no mas wires

WHAT DO I DO PEOPLE???

From what it looks in my situation this is not going to be plug and play, and im going to have to wire in the tach. Am I? Anyone know if that one plug is what powers it? suggestions...

Very strange. It should work just fine. My friend had a 94 DX hatch and took my VX cluster and the tach and everything worked perfect

Well its definitly plug and play I can tell you that much. It is possible that some of the wires got screwed up or something, I'll try to research

Its is plug and play all of the way... ur harness only had 3 because it has no gas light. But that does not matter in controlin the tach... i think etheir u have a bad cluster or u pluged in the wrong one . I think the plug off ur harness plugs into both of the opening in th back of the cluster

Just so u kno That is not a cx cluster.. A cx has no tach... I think u have a vx cluster with an vtec-e motor

Your car is missing a plug. On every 92-95 honda civic i have owned (which is alot) there was an additional 4th plug (green i believe) that is used for the tach. Maybe you just over looked the plug and its crammed down in behind. If not you are going to need to get that plug from another civic (junkyard) and hard wire it in yourself.

well I made sure there was no other plug (double checked) and there is not. The one plug dosent plug into both just the yellow. The harness is yellow to so makes since it's the right one. Im pretty sure it was a cx because the hatch was a cx and you could clearly tell the car had never gotten any modifications what so ever. Im going to go to a junkyard and going to get the harness and then just wire it in (maybe). People this proves not every cluster is just plug and play. Also I know the cluster isnt messed up because like stated before we tryed an ex cluster to and same thing. Thanks for the input guys! Does anyone no what the pins are on the empty plug in I have??? Like which wire is going to go to what? Theres four. Also is there any alternative besides getting that harness from a junkyard? like somthiong from radio shack where you can just slip somthing on the pins and hook wire to the other side. Aww man always somthing I knew this shiat wasnt going to be plug and play. lol my luck I guess, and believe me people I reached my hand really good around there is no missing harness.

really strange, I'm gonna go unplug that one you're missing right now and see if it effects the tach.

Ok I unplugged both the bottom small plugs, turned the car on, and the tach still worked.

Yeah I think the wiring on the tach plug (plug behind the tach) is messed up or something.

BRB gotta put everything back together lol

i think the plug that u are missing is for cruise control light or something. its green. the yellow 1 is SRS i belive

the tach will still work without those plugged in. it should be plug & play, u got a bum cluster or wiring is fucked up somewheres along the line.

i have the same cluster and swapped it in place of my CX cluster.

ok, it's not such a big deal to me what kind of cluster it is only that it has an rpm guage. Im going to see if the blue wire behind the cluster is getting signal and try to diagnose the problem. Just havent had much time with school and all. Peace!
