dseries oil pans interchangeable?
Ok,
i've got a d15b7,
and have most of the parts for a turbo kit,
dont have as much time in my life as I used to,
so i cant really spend all the time needed to do everything myself
SOOO, I want to find a used oilpan thats already been tapped, and just swap it in.
now I saw some on ebay, but its alot easier to find one from a different engine,
one going for a d16y7 right now for example.
so i'm wondering, what dseries engines can I trade oil pans with?
thanks!

The D15 and 16 '88-'95 pans are interchangeable. The Y series '96+ bolt pattern at the oil pump end is different, but if you wanted to drill it, it should fit.

ok sounds good.
1question though,
if I were to get a y pan,
would I need to drill into the block, or just drill a new hole in the pan?
i've got nothing against drilling a new hole in the pan, but I dont want to mess aroudn with the block.

Except D16Y7 oil pan; it is stamped steel.

You would need two new holes in the pan at the oil pump end, and you would need to grind or mackine a flat for the nut to seat on. Very easy if you have the right tools.

ok, so one is steel and the other is alluminum
does that matter?
if its just choice, then i'd rather have the illuminum.
but is there a problem using either one on whatever motor?

92-95 All oil pans are the same.
96-00 Non-vtec are stamped steel and have different bolt pattern than 92-95
96-00 Ex and HX use a aluminum pan of same bolt pattern.
Maybe they used aluminum on the VTEC motors to make the bottom end a little stronger.
