Drum to Disk people, may I ask how much you paid for the entire conversion?
If you did it by yourself and you just paid for the disk setup I'd love to hear from you too. I want to really badly change my wife's 2000 hatchback rear brakes from drum to disk but I don't know how much it'll cost us. A friend of mine said he'd do the labor for probably $400 and then I'd have to buy the parts. Does that sound reasonable? Reason I can't do it myself is I don't have the expertise. I fix computers good though!

Labor should not cost $400 dollars... thats crazy. I know someone who charges $150 here in so.cal . At http://www.hmotorsonline.com you can get the entire DC2(GSR) rear disc setup w/ ebrake cables for 200 +shipping since you live in HI(I think its under "used parts" or "whats new". I have seen them in the marketplace for about 150-175+ depending on how complete it is.

I traded my VX wheels I was selling for $200 for my GSR rear disc brakes with trailing arms, but they came with no LCA's, no ebrake cables, bushings, or proportioning valve.. So I'm still looking for those parts till I can start the conversion.
I would say that $400 is way too much for labor. I'd say give it a try yourself, but read up before you do it, if you have any problems you come upon, this is where to ask.

Wow, $400?? Just do the labor yourself! I had never done this conversion until I read up on this site, saw pictures/diagrams, and started wrenching on cars myself. I looked under the car and saw there was not much to the install/conversion.

i sold like 3 sets in the past 5 yrs for 120-180. so you can find them used for a good deal. all mine were complete too.

^^ for sure... attempt a DIY and just make sure that you have some PB Blaster along with all the necessary tools and jack/stands. If you take your time and have a buddy help you should be able to do it.

Agreed, I used jack stands and patience. Luckily none of the bolts I needed to take off were stuck.
Also, get 99-00 Si rear disc brakes, they are a direct swap and the e-brake cables fit perfectly!

Wow dude, i've bought two pairs one for $100 ( came complete ) and just recently for $80 ( without the e-brakes cables ) and installing takes about 2 hours or less.
If your friend is saying to pay him $400, sorry to tell you but the **** is ripping you off. Just search online for a DIY guide with pictures

I paid 250 for the front and rear, off of a GSR with Brembo rotors, new pads, brake lines, and e-brake cables. I installed it myself and it took a few hours, but isnt really hard at all.

I paid 40$ for my whole trailing arm assemblies from the junkyard, with prop valve and got the e-brake cables for free helping a dude put in a motor.

I'd suggest losing him as a friend. I would never charge a friend to do anything. buy a couple beers, pull up your shirt sleeves and get girty.

parts cost me 50 bucks and a front bumper
labor = free
diy ftw.
its really easy to do, handtools and floorjack and jackstands.
took me 2 hours

i paid 175 for the rear disc trailing arms, ebrake cables and all lines braided steel. If you dont bs around it might take an 30mins a side...really just need to remember where the few bolts go and work a wrench

Got mine for $800.........Did I forget to mention it was five lug? 
Anyways $400 is way too much. $100 - $150 would be reasonable but it is a fairly easy swap and you should have no problem doing it yourself.
