run to your local hardware store... they sell tis thing that goes in to tight places it is very flexible and you push on the end of it and this little claw type thing comes out and it grabs stuff.... very tightly i might add..... sears would def have it i think its called like mechanical fingers or something i dunno .. it should work great ..if not drain your oiland go fishing in there.. maybe jack up the pass side of your car to persuade the bolt to go towards the drain hole..

jack up the passenger side .. the flow of the oil could bring the bolt out with it.. so keep your eye on the oil as it comes out maybe stick the magnet in the drined oil.. just make sure the car is leaning towards the drain hole so gravity can persuade the bolt to come out if its in there... lets us know the result

You may wanna take off the pan and check it after you drain the oil too just in case the oil doesn't take the bolt with it and it's just sitting there.

run to the hardware store and try the mechanical figers .. they are thin enough to fit down the hole

ah, are any of you thinking. your all making this way harder then it has to be, and it is very unproballe that it just fell into the oil pan. just take off the valve cover. It is easy to do, and at worst, your going to have to replace that gasket which are like $20 and VERY easy to replace (probally the easiest gasket to change on the entire car.

EDIT Huked on phonic werked four meh

I am the one who is stupid, and can not read. What I would do is get a decent size magnet and on the botttom of the oil pan, run it along it, bring it closer to the drain. If you get it, you should here slight scratching noises. If it did not make it down the hole, you may want to stick some thick string down there and see if it gets stuck. If it does, thats probally where your bolt is.

If getting lucky with a magnet or those mechanical fingers doesn't work, then lets hope it is in the pan then otherwise have fun taking that motor apart.

Good Luck

Jesus all the time you've spent sitting on the internet waiting for the miracle answer you could have already taken the oil pan off and put it back on and be done with it (based that the stud made it's way into the oil pan already). And if it hasn't try pouring oil down the hole it fell into to help it move on through.

I would try using compressed air if it does not come out.

yea I had the same problem with my car. I was drilling into a broken valve cover bolt to remove it from the head and the drill bit just snapped in half and dissapeared. I never found where it went, but I thought it may have fallen into an oil hole . My car is running fine and since then I've changed the oil once or twice so i'm sure everything is fine
