Right now I wouldn't continue to try and start the engine until you make sure the Timing Belt is ok. To check to see if the Timing Belt broke either pull the Upper Timing Belt cover off or take the Distributor cap off and see which way the contact on the rotor button is pointing, then get a 19mm socket and ratchet and turn the engine over a bit CCW using the crank pulley bolt, then look and see if the rotor button moved at all. If you have a friend then you can have them watch the rotor button as you spin the crank slighty, if the rotor button spins the belt is good.

If the Belt is good then we will have to troubleshoot further. Rule the T-Belt out first though.

EDIT: And if the T-Belt is indeed broke I wouldn't loose sleep over it(IE: Worrying if your engine is ok). In my experience it will be fine once a new belt is put on. I have replaced T-Belts on several D16Z6 engines that had broken T-Belts and they ran perfect. Also replaced T-Belt on 2 different SOHC accords that had the belts break and they were good as new once a new belt was put on as well. On of the D16Z6s I did was my younger Brother's, belt snapped on him on the freeway when he was cruising to work at 80mph. Its had a bunch more miles put on it since I put a belt on it including getting driven from Harrisburg, NC to Dallas, TX. Never skipped a beat.

Yeah I would definately check your t-belt more than likely it's broken. But like he said don't get to worried at first. My old SOHC broke one and i replaced it and it still ran good. Good luck to you.
