Default Driving 100miles / day

Hey yall. My commute to work is 56 miles each way which is an hour drive. My car has 101,000 miles on it and i just did the 90k service. Is it safe to drive my car 80+ the whole way ? I know the smaller gears like 4/5 put more load on the engine. So is it safe to cruise at 80/85 on 5th gear at like 3500/4k rpm for 2 hours every day? or should i take it down to 70

Any kind of drive like that is giong to take a toll on your transmission, but as long as you don't "race" everyday i.e. hard shifting you'll be fine.

i wouldn't...if you go up to 80mph, let off the gas and you can feel and hear the stress on the trans as it gear brakes...just keep it at 60-65mph...its what i did with my d16y8, it was a little tough to get used to but i just set my cruise control and relaxed...much nicer of a drive.

and besides..how much time are you really saving by going 20mph faster...1 minute?? maybe 2?

Keep your service in check and you'll be fine. Oh, treat your car the way you would want to be treated. Don't start it up and go hauling ***. You don't get out of bed and go for a sprint, so let it warm up with moderate driving and then you'll be fine. Same thing when you shut it off. You don't go for a run and then right to bed, so let your car cool down a little with moderate driving and then shut her off.

your fine. putting load on a motor would be like going up a steep hill in 5th gear at 30mph, 1600rpms full throttle.

D-series trans? fresh fluid? run it whatever speed you want. for a little piece of mind get one of those magnetic drain plugs, but most trans cases have internal magnets anyway.

these honda five speeds are pretty tough, if you're easy on the clutch and you don't grind the synchros it should outlast the engine easy.
