Driver door ajar dome light question.
Here's the deal: I have my dome light (98 Civic) on the setting in the middle so that when you open the door, the dome light comes on. The problem is that the light doesn't come on when the drivers door is open, but it functions properly when the passenger door is open. I have checked the piece in the door jam and that is not the problem. Any other ideas?

make sure the wire is connected to that black boot looking thing and also make sure it is tightly secured to the car.. if that doesnt work then try just grounding the wire thats attached to the switch in the door, it could be broken and not making contact, ive seen it happen before

I've gone to honda and gotten a new switch that goes in the door jam and it gave me no luck, so its not the switch. As for the grounding, i'm pretty sure the grounding wire is near the dome light, and there is only one ground for both the passenger and driver's door. So if the passenger door works, it can't be the ground.

Try to remove the switch on the driver's side and unplug the wire.
Then connect the wire to any grounding point and if the light does not turn on, you have continuity problem. You can trace it by using a VOM.
If the light goes on, then the switch may not be getting a ground.

take off the light bulb cover and make sure the bolt that holds the light to the roof is tight also.. had that happen to me on my old car and only fixed it cause i was pushing on the light and it turned on..

This seems to be the problem... What exactly is a VOM and where can I get one? Thanks.
