Default downpipe sound?

so i have a hatchback with a 00' gsr engine swap. i have dc headers with a straight downpipe (2.75 i think) with the oem exhaust.

anytime i rev past 3500 rpm, i get some nasty rattling sound

now this isnt much of a comparison, but my friend's boosted ep3 has a downpipe with an aftermarket exhaust, and his car has a nice deep sound

so my question is: would switching from an OEM to a decent aftermarket exhaust make a good difference? (no catalytic converter)

Do you have a resonator?

Also, if your car is NA, you shouldn't have a downpipe. I'm assuming you mean straight pipe and you don't have a resonator so that could be your problem.
