door locks frozen 99 civic
I just bought this car po was at car wash and said he washed it and doors are locked are frozen now. No idea how but its been really cold like 10-20 degrees and doesn't seem to be getting warmer. The doors will not open or unlock from either the inside or the outside. I tried the door locks and the key the key turns to the lock side but doesn't turn the other way to unlock the door. I dont know if the doors locks are frozen or not. But wouldn't it open from the inside then. The trunk lever opens the trunk fine from inside and the key.
I wouldnt mind much but the other passenger side door is doing the exact thing. he says it happens every other winter. The key turns one way in the door lock but doesn't turn the other way to unlock. I have no way to move it to a heated garage also. Was wondering the best way to open the door without prying the door handle off. Im thinking blow torch to the lock maybe

Heat up your key with a lighter. And no it will not leave a black stain on the key, you can wipe it off. Might take a few tries.

Once you get the locks to unlock, you can spray the locks with WD40 and it will displace the water in the cylinders which should prevent refreezing.
Spray the locks then work the locks with the key so the WD40 gets into the tumblers and lock cylinder thoroughly.
