Door lock problems
So my 98 civic dx's driver side lock hasnt worked since I bought it last year... Well it locks from the inside, but the key doesnst work at all from the out side...
The key works fine on the passenger side, and starting the car. Is there anything I can do aside from changing the cylinder and using a different key to open/lock my door than my ignition?

Re: Door lock problems
Open the driver door, hold the door handle on the outside of the car in the "OPEN POSITION" and push the lock down. PHYSICALLY push the lock down and not flick the lever. If that doesn't work then it's a mechanical/electrical issue.

Re: Door lock problems
I had an actual key cylinder that locked up one day and never worked again. I pulled it apart and cleaned/lubricated it, but it never worked after that point. At that time I installed key cylinders from another civic into my civic and just used a different key for the doors and ignition. As far as I know there is no other way around it if the actual key cylinder is the culprit.
Also, RonJ@HT I don't think DX model civics had power door locks.

Re: Door lock problems
Back on track.
OP - Are you able to turn the key cylinder with the key or is it seized? If the latter is true, try spraying some WD40 into the hole where the key inserts. Then work the key back and forth to see if you can eventually get it to turn.

Re: Door lock problems
Like i said when the DOOR IS OPEN, hold the handle open and physically push the lock down. It should lock.

Re: Door lock problems
As mentioned above, this^ is normal. It prevents people from locking their keys in the car.

Re: Door lock problems
hah ok this worked! I can now lock my door without having to shimmy myself to the passenger side and get out. I still have to open my passenger side door to unlock the driver side door but its a start...
Im going to try the WD40 thing today and let you guys know how it works
