Don't pump gas on May 15th
April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices.
Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.
assuming everyone on myspace owns a car/puts gas in a car. the numbers are not right, technically, but it still is affective. so. wee.
spread the word...its kinda sad that when gas hit 2$ we all threw bitch fits..and now were all like "OMG!!!!!!!! 3$ a gallon *cuts of 20cars to get to station*...
On May 15th 2007, all myspace members are asked to not go to a gas station in protest of
high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places.
There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the myspace network, and the
average car takes about 20 to 30 dollars to fill up.
If all myspace members did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take
$2,200,000,000.00 (that's BILLION) out of the oil companys pockets for just one day,
so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the
Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day.
If you agree (which I cant see why you wouldnt) repost this bulletin repost it with

its actually not as bad as you think. i pump gas in oregon (shutup i probly make more than you an hour). the average car is not 20-30$. it is more like 40-50$. i have a crvtec that i run premium no matter what. this was my choice to go with a crvtec, so i dont complain about the price.
compair our prices to those in other countries. Europe is like 4.25 a gallon. Canada is like 2.25 a liter (how many liters in a gallon?)yea. Mexico..whell everything in mexico is cheap.
if we were to do this do you think that the gas companies would lower the price of gas. no. they would compensate. they would raise gass prices to like 7-9 bucks for a month. that is why they call it supply and demand not boycot if you dont like our price. i have seen the examples. the Alaskan pipeline was eroding and needed repairs. gas went up from 2.21 to 2.35 in a day. a refinery in Anacorda Wa went down because of unseen damage gas went up once again.
please help keep our prices where the are and not jack them up. please do not boycot.
just my two pennies

YES! Finally someone get it!!! Boycotting gas stations for one day is not going to affect anything b/c you still have to pump gas sometime. Oil companies don't mind waiting one day. The only way we can make a difference is if we ALL reduce the amount of gas we use over a period of time. Lower demand lower prices, get it? That is the only way to really hit the oil tycoons in the wallet.

Re: (RiceKillinSI)
skip the 15th on a fill up and just do it on the 16th. they make their money one way or another. if u drive u use fuel. u would have to get people to not drive for a day or two. people will just end up filling up on the 14th so they no they will have enough gas.............which means the oil companys still make their money. this will just postpone it 1 day. i dought oil companys are worried about it.

why doesnt everyone just stop driving period then. im sure if Everyone on myspace just stoped driving for a month then gas prices would temporarily be down but they'd still go back up.

Actually gas in Mexico is pretty expensive. It was around $5 bucks a gallon when I went there a year and a half ago. The gas company over there is freakin monopolized. There was only 1 brand no matter where you went.

you guys are insane!
boycotting for one day won't do anything!
Instead of trying these "chain-letter" boycotts, how about forcing everyone in america to buy a a 4 cylinder? Or persuading everyone you know to buy a a 4 cylinder or turbodiesel?
The average fuel economy of all cars in america, including classics and old beaters, is about 14 MPG. The average japanese car sees high 20's. THAT'S how you hurt the oil companies.
and then later on in life oil companies learn how to profit on hydrogen technology and gas engines become like horse and carriages.
And then we will STILL pay 3 bucks a gallon......for hydrogen.

oh, and P.S.......gas prices in april 1997 for the nation on average were 1.10 for regular. They did NOT drop to 80 cents a gallon as the OP said, or else I'd be telling my kids stories of...."I remember when gas was 80 cents a gallon...."

The shadiness between U.S. gov't/auto manu./oil companies is horrific.
European guidelines are now opting for the average euro automobile to get upwards near 50 mpg.
I tell ya (don't get me wrong, I LOVE the U.S.), sometimes I just don't understand why we can't conform to these standards. We have the tech. Use it.

Not only is there no tech in this, and the other has already been locked, which SHOULD Have been your hint, but do you even understand basic economics? Not pumping gas for one day isn't going to hurt anyone when the next day people pump twice as much.
