Default doing valve adjustment. how do you torque the screws?

im trying to adjust my valves and i have everything set, but the guide i read on here says to torque them while you have the screw driver in the screw. how the hell do you pull that? also how are you guys getting your feeler guages in the intake sides? i have to pull a wierd angle to get it in there just right and if you have the gauge bent at all it wont read right.

also, im trying to get 10ft/lb of tq. i rented a torque wrench from autozone and it starts at 30ft/lbs.

with a dseries you can do it with a regular open ende wrench and a flat head screw driver.

this site should help you with a step by step. it's for a bseries, but it's the same procedure.

im actually using this writeup https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1305086 . he says you have to torque the nuts with the screw driver in the screw. i have no idea how you can do that. also, do autozone torque wrenches only read starting at 30lbs?

You need an angled feeler guage.

for a d series? i can get the guage straight if i come in from a wierd angle, but i just found it out that nobody mentioned that it was harder to do the intake side.

You torque the nut, not the screw. It's a trial and error process. You loosen the nut, back the adjuster screw off, insert the appropriate feeler, tighten the screw until it barely drags, then torque the nut. Re-check with the feeler gauge. Move on.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by drewthomas14 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">im actually using this writeup https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1305086 . he says you have to torque the nuts with the screw driver in the screw. i have no idea how you can do that. also, do autozone torque wrenches only read starting at 30lbs?</TD></TR></TABLE>

unfortunately there are no pics, atleast not on my computer, but anyway. basically you take the open end wrench and place it on the nut. then you loosen it. keep the wrench there. take the screw driver and loosen or tighten the screw. place the feeler gauge in between the cam lobe and the screw. when you have it where you need it, tighten the nut. hold the screw driver and tighten the nut. then remove them both and go to the next one.
