Does a turbocharger *need* heavy weight oil?
I have a whining from 5-7k RPMs in first, second, and third. At first I thought it was the transmission, but I'm thinking it could be the turbocharger instead. The t/c is a brand new greddy 15g, so the only thing that I can think of that I might have done wrong is using 5w30 - does a t/c really need 10w30 or heavier?
The problem still might just be my clutch, but I thought I should check with you all on this just to make sure I'm not making a big mistake running light weight oil in my t/c'd car.

uh...
I have a DSM and I use Mobile One synthetic. Weight should be based on condition of engine and tempiture. I wouldn't use fossil.

yeah, I don't like dino oil either, I am running M1 5w30. Just wondering if something that light is bad for the turbo

shoulda posted this in the forced induction forum...
not sure what you *SHOULD* run in a turbo but i've gotten away with running 20W-50 in my old RX and I have friends who run much ligther synthetic in their dsms.....i don't think it matters much as long as its motor oil.
