Car is a 92 civic VX D15z1. Distributor has started making noise like there is something rattling around in there. I took off the cap and everything looked fine. Do I dish out the dough for a new dizzy or check something else?

if there is oil in the cap then it's the bearing.
if not, then it could still be the bearing...

cap/rotor is not much $$.

There is no oil in the cap and the sound comes and goes. Its mostly there during cold starts and goes away as it heats up or at least dulls in noise. I'm going to pull it apart tonight and hopefully it needs just the rotor but who knows.

sounds like the bearing may be starting to go.
it has about 90-100k on it? (typical life span)

I've got the same problem. Update us if you fix the problem. I know my rotor is bad so i plan on replacing that along with re adjusting my valves which is pass due even though i don't think this is contributing to the sound, but either way ill let you know if i find anything this week.

I replaced the whole distributor and now its fine, no noise. I looked closer under the cap and saw the infamous red dust. I knew it was the bearings after that.
