Does not having o2 sensors wired up effect performance
i have a 0bd2 gsr swap in my 97 civic. it has an AN-R header with no bung for an 02 sensor. And the other o2 sensor on the cat is there, but the wires are cut. just wondering if this effects performance and timing. i have raced an 0bd1 gsr at the track and he pulled almost a second faster than me with half the mods i have, just wondering if my performance is effected from this. also my plugs are a step colder would this be affecting my performance too?

Well dont O2 sensors tell the ecu how much air and fuel to mix in the engine?? It would make sence to me that it wouldnt run as good

Re: Does not having o2 sensors wired up effect performance (cueballsi)
does anyone have a picture or a description on how to wire these badboys up. the one on the cat is cut but the wires are out enough i'm thinking i can just splice into them. i'm guessing the one on the cat is the secondary 02 sensor? i want to do this wiring myself so if someone has a diagram or can guide me, the help would be much appreciated.

We here at Car Sound / Magnaflow have a wiring Diagram for our universal 02 sensors. If you call us we can fax it to you, it should help you out.

your primary o2 sensor (in the exhaust mani) will hinder the performance of your engine greatly.. the second one in the cat isn't so needed. if either are these are gone, the check engine light will come on. you're probably getting horrible gas mileage and horrible performance. like someone said above, the primary tells the ecu about the air/fuel ratio and adjusts accordingly

Yes...performance will suck. I just spent 2 weeks driving around with a bad primary sensor, and I got HORRIBLE gas mileage, and really low idle (almost and sometimes stalling). It will also ruin your cat if you run that way for too long. Don't worry about the secondary (in the cat) it will just give you a CEL, but not effect the performance. You need that primary though.

the only thing a bad o2 sensor would do is make your ecu waste more gas than needed since it cant sense how much oxygen is being put through.
the only thing is it will make you wast emore gas, thats all.

Ummm wrong! As I said, I just drove around for 2 weeks with a dead primary o2 sensor, and not only did the gas mileage suck....idle is so low that it will stall. All that fuel rich exhaust gas will also destroy the catalyst in your cat. Running rich will also foul your plugs along with god knows what else.

i had my o2 sensor disconnected for months. my plugs did not foul, all i suffred was poorer gas mileage, and more unburnt fuel from the muffler.
i did not have a cat, it was straight.
my idle was unaffected.

By disconnected do you mean it was still wired up, just not mounted anywhere? If it was then it is still reading the ambient air. If the sensor isn't there at all, or dead like mine...it WILL affect performanve.

I had mine unplugged for a long time as well...I had no performance issues, I was still getting 29 mpg as well.
